need to be a little more specific way too many variations to choose from. need to know info like cam specs, compression ratio, etc.

I'm talking the crate motor you can buy from GM. Here is some of the information. Also, can I get a computer controlled carb., distributor, and maybe burn a chip, or would it be better to take the computer controlled stuff out?

I think it is a good motor. Guy here in town swaped it in in place of his L98. He is using the Skogin Dickey TPI base but I think the rest of his TPI and computer are stock and he runs 13.8 at 97 mph. Not sure about emissions though. I don't think it has EGR capability with the vortec heads. But a good Catalytic converter should make it pass a sniffer.
Wether you change to noc cc setup or not depends on the local inspection laws. If they go by appearance then you may not be able to. If they go by actual test in your exhaust you could probably make it cleaner than the computer for testing purposes.

It should pass smog fine. You will have to buy the Scoggin Dickey TPI base though if you are using TPI. The stock TPI base has a different bolt pattern that the Vortec heads.
what would u guys think about me putting a carb in that engine..i want to go with that engine too...i hear nothing but good things..reliable..powerfull..all that good stuff..should i swap my tbi to the HO crate...or put ina carb setup?

If you're looking to EFI it, then I wouldn't use a TBI unit. I'd buy the SDPC base Large tube runners, and a ported upper TPI plenum. Cheaper to go carb but I think EFI makes up for it in gas mileage over a year or two.

Well, I don't know what the allowed emissions levels are where you're at, but we have a pretty tough two stage dyno test here and my Vortec headed 350 passes with total ease if you have it in tune (I usually lean it out a bit for the test) and I have a lot hotter cam than the 350 HO comes with (a XE262. I would swap that stock one out while I had the motor out of the car, try a CompCams XE262 and their stock size valve springs. Will work nice...). Only functioning smog equipment on my car is a fairly new 3" Catco cat.
You should be able to easily make 350 hp with the HO with a slightly hotter cam, Performer RPM or equivilent intake, 650ish carb, and some decent headers...

Would I be able to buy another cc carb that would work? (my stock q-jet is too small, i think) like an edelbrock or JET? Also what about the distributor?

The stock CC Q-jet is plenty big enough for that motor. A rejetting of the carb and a new PROM chip would take care of it and retain all of your emissions equipment. Also, the computer will help with driveability and keep the engine in tune all of the time.
Man, I just got done putting one of those GM crate motors in. It runs good and sounds good. My 305 sortof cracked on me so I had to get a new engine.

I agree the CC q-jet will have all the flow capacity you need. Just make sure the AV will open all the way (see tech articles), do some rods/hanger tuning.
Man, it's way to much to type. If you are going to make the swap I can tell you what you'll need to buy to do it but other than that it's a long story.
What took 2 weeks? The first chevy dealer we went to gave us a 305.
And hey, I got Pacer 17 inch wheels and at a dead stop without power braking this engine will roast em.
