which heads would you suggest?
hi to all fellow third genners.
i'm in the process of rebuilding my old pre-86, 350, .020 over, dished pistons...(
) the block is a 4 bolt main, 2 piece rear main oil seal.
i have 2 sets of heads, and i would like to know what do you guys think (way different both and the intake manifold is not an issue)
1- P/N 14014416 "305 HO" 1.84 / 1.50 58cc. or...
2- P/N 14102193, 87 up, 1.94 / 1.50, combustion chamber size unknown, but bigger runners.
i wanted to use the 305 heads, because of the 58cc CC, but the bigger intake valves of the other set sounds good to me.
so, i need some advice from you dear friends.
thanks to all for your time.
Fernando.

The 193 IIRC are truck TBI heads {insert gagging sounds here}
Use the 416s, have larger valves put in them, and port them. They will be far better that way than any TBI heads could ever be, no matter what size valves are in them. Get any other machine work done at the same time; such as screw-in studs & guide plates, spring pocket cutout, enlarge the push rod slots to holes, cut guides down to .530" or .500" for Teflon seals, etc. etc.

88, what casting # are yours? Are they 193s?
I don't really understand that"design feature". Well, I understand what it does, just not why they thought they should do it. I guess it's for low-end torque and all that but it comes at a pretty steep penalty. I guess now you know why your truck ran the way those do.... no top end whatsoever.

so you guys think those heads are a piece of crap?
shame on the *** who design them.
well so far the 416's are, they are overhauled and ported already but still are 1.84, if it is better than those crappy truck heads, then 416 it is.
any other suggestion?
thanks to all brothers.

My heads are 193's.
I think I've got it figured out, they built a 'ramp' into the intake port to help the incoming charge 'get air' before entering the chamber
As far as other suggestions, I can't think of any that won't cost money.
