how can i gain clearance?

i started out with a stock v8 engine in an 83 camaro with an edelbrock carb, edelbrock open element air cleaner, 1 inch spacer between the carb and aircleaner and a 1 inch adapter between the intake and cab. today i put in an edelbrock performer series intake. now i dont need the 1 inch adapter but everything else is still the same. my problem is that i dont have any clearance between the bolt on top of the aircleaner and the hood. i allready have a fugly dent in the center of my hood because of this and i'm not shutting my hood again untill i get it fixed. what can i do to gain more clearance? other than buying a new type of hood? thanks alot for any info

Michael

In my case, that was only part of the solution. I also had to cut down the air cleaner stud.

It's the threaded rod you put the breather's wingnut on.

i've allready done that, its down far enough that i only get a turn and a half from the wingnut, and the wings on the wingnut have been cut also... its pretty much a really skinny bolt

In that case, I'd recommend getting the dropped base that f-bird'88 mentioned.
I'm running a dropped base and a 14" x 2" filter. I've got maybe a 1/2" of clearance
between the wingnut and the hood.

I don't know. You might try Mid America since tthey specialize in 'vettes.
Mine was in the car(but not intalled) when I bought it.

IIRC, Summit also carries 'em, but I don't remember the price range.
