synth in 350s and rotarys

I guess I'd like to start by saying this is my first post. Anyhow, a friend of mine recently sold his '84 rx7 to another friend of mine (an improvement over his fiero) and that little rotary will not die! I has well over 200k miles and still shoots up to 140 mph like its nothin, and it's stock. As for synthetics, I swear by anything that gm recommends for the LT5 and with good reason- the horsepower and engine-cleaning characteristics of synths, not just mobil 1, speak for themselves. I am looking into the redline street oil, something about 12000 miles in a regular engine in between changes. That's crazy to me, I think I'll change it more often, even if it is $8 a quart. Aren't K&N oil filters reuasble like the air filters? I'd like to hope son since I could have sworn I read it in an advertisement.

as far as I know K&N oil filters are not reuseable. there is a reuseable oil filter that Jeg's sells. I think its around $100

Actually most synthetics are good for 10,000 miles or more, Mobil 1 for 25,000 miles. The problem is that this is based on viscosity breakdown and not on accumulation of contaminants in the oil. That is what is usually the deciding factor to change oil. It gets so many contaminants in it, turning black, that it's lubricating properties deteriorate. So, don't try 12,000, you'll be sorry in the long run.

K & N filters are reusable. They usually have a "Recharge" kit where-ever they are sold. Contains a cleaning spray, and more filter oil. Good for quite a few cleanings!

The air filters are, but not the case w/ any of the K&N oil filters I've seen on the shelf. They're sealed cannisters like the rest.

youre right guys

I pulled out my jegs, and yes, I was mistaken. They have K&N, which are disposable like the others, and then they have the system 1 reusables. My mistake. But yea, I was talking about the oil filters. thanks guys.

rotarys r GR 8

Yeah i had an 84 rx-7 w/ 200k miles, long story short: stolen, recovered, 1 year rebuilt, stolen again, 92 camaro RS.

If only the 92 will last until the RX-8 ships.

Don't desicrate the baby bird! Those are nasty little devils with an 8 in 'em!

K&N oil filters are not IIRC reusable, but there is one on the market that is. IIRC (it's been a while) it was a pancake type made by, I beleive, Moroso. Not too sure, but if you hop onto Summit's web site I'm sure you'll be able to pull it up if it's still being produced.

Wow, I feel stupid! Were talking about oil and filters, and whatnot, and I get hung up thinking about the air filters! My bad!
