How do I tighten the sterring wheel, it wobbles left and right?
I have tilt steering so it sort of wobbles up and down but now it wobbles side to side. How would I go about tightening it or do I have to replace something? Thanks.

haha. this is fun. well you have to rip your steering wheel apart. take out all the turn signal stuff and eventually you will see some screws. i think they are torx head. there are 4 of them. you can only get to three of them easily but you can get it tight enough with just 3. have fun. anyone know for sure what kind of head? just get a long screwdriver type tool with whatever size socket you need. its not really too hard. just putting everything back together

might be a good idea to take the screws out and put threadlocker on them too but not really necessary. i just tightened mine down last year and its still holding tight.

The screws are actually reverse torx heads. The "torx" shape is a protrusion, not a hole. You'll need special sockets to tighten them. The sockets are listed as E10-E30 etc instead of the torx T10-T30 etc. I had to grind one down to fit inside the small hole just to reach the screws. There is no easy way to tighten them. Good luck.

You said the steering wheel moves,in every direction?Does it feel like the column/shaft moves too?If so there is a plastic piece that keeps everything center which might have broken all the way this time. This happened to my Berlinetta that I used to have. One night I heard a snap when I pulled on the steering wheel to get in the car and then the wheel moved in every direction.Sorry I can't remember the name of the part needed right now.Needless to say I didn't get it fixed.

A 12-point will sorta work, but a Torx socket set isn't that expensive and there are other Torx head bolts on our cars. Get the sockets so you can tighten these things properly.
Don't put this off. If you do, soon you'll have the engine cutting out around corners (affects the rod to the ignition switch), dimmer switch won't work, etc. Nothing good happens by waiting to do this job. It's a pain, but do-able. Your steering will feel SO much better after those pivots are tight again.
While you're tool shopping, get a proper steering wheel puller and steering wheel lock compression tool. You can't get the steering wheel off without the 1st, and you will spend half the time on this job getting that clip off if you don't have the lock tool.

I had this problem on my 82 T/A. I looked up how to completely fix it, and found out that you have to pull the whole steering column out through the engine compartment, and then tighten 5 bolts. I just took mine down to a shop and laid down $70 to have them do it. I recommend you do the same, unless you have a lot of repair experience.

Wooh that was a long time ago...all fixed now, I had to get a new column since mine snapped on me while i was turning underneath an overpass. The the column rotating relocated the key cyclinder to about the 11 o'clock position. It not a pleasant feeling having the loss steering control with cars swarming around both sides of you...at least i had control of the brakes and gas
. That evening sucked...anyway like five7kid said dont put it off, or else bad things and happen. Though i think my case was the most severe.
BTW I had someone else put the column on while i was at work so i cant really give a description of what was done.
