Awesome. I wouldnt mind getting a bird but I'd take either one of the 3rd gens...I love them both. But I want the V6,less gas and less insurance.

i got my 86 cpe for 900 bucks. she was a rust bucket tho with several dents. but the price was right. it just took some elbow grease and some $ to make her look good tho.

oh, the insurance is 80 a month and im 19m with 1 ticket in the bay area. the jackasses at the AAA seem to think my car is a "family car" since it is neither a Z28 nor RS. HAHHAHAHAHAHHA, for once i cought a break!

------------------
86 camaro cpe(dont laugh)has 92z28 body kit with GTS covers and a killer stereo. 2 amps, 8 speakers, disc changer, custom install with subs coming by the end of the summer. sawpped (or in the process of) 305lg4 for brand new 350. TES headers, flowmaster cat back, performer manifold, TCI converter, jet chip, kn with dual snorkel cleaner. and she still passed the sniffer!

Absolutely. I paid $1525 for my 85 Z28 at a local auction. Helluva deal. Not a damn thing wrong with it either. It had a nice a** stereo & cd changer and the rims and tires alone were still worth more than half that. All you have to do is look around a little. If you're unsure about one, skip it. 3rd gens are a dime a dozen. They're like the city bus, don't sweat it if you miss it, another one'll be along in a few minutes.

Of course! Mine cost about $600 and I probably put in about another $600 since and it is great, however, it really helps when you can find really great deals on parts and labour! . And the experience has been wonderful! Good luck!

picked up my car for $1300. of course it had 165,000 miles then. but the body was in great shape. Now i'm swapping in a slightly built 305 so it should be good for another 170,000. But there are some awesome deals for under 1500. Just wait for the right one

Anyone want a '83 Trans Am? $1500 Runs well straight body. 146k anything that you can pay 1100 for and drive for a year is basicaly free transportation.

Say so long to your Camaro and so long to your parents leash, time to move on.....

Depends on how much work you're willing to do. I've got an '86 T/A with no mtr/tans. and trashed interior, but otherwise straight that $800 would buy.

Don't forget, DBombRS, if you start paying your own insurance, then they can't control your car at all anymore. Give them a spare set of keys, but get yourself a locking gas cap, and get yourself an alarm w/starter kill. Hide the spare gas cap key and the spare alarm transmitter in your room.

TomP is right. You buy the car, you pay the insurance, pretty much makes it yours, dontcha think? However, I'd have to advise against a starter-kill alarm. I had one and it literally killed my starter! Didn't do much for the rest of my electrical stuff, either. You have to be careful how much strain you put on these "older" american cars. Their power is usually just enough to get 'em goin', then its all up to your right foot and your V8!

I got my Z for $700 (minus one motor) and went to the local junkyard and picked up a 350 in good shape out of a chevy school bus for $500. I love it when a plan comes together.

just bought my 87 IROC about 2 months ago. Paid $2200. 150K, fully loaded, T-tops, 350, posi disc rear end. I put rotors and pads up front, and repleced the tie rod assmeblies. It still needs a little work to get the motor perfect, but I have been driving it without problems.

I see real nice V6 third gens around all the time for your price range. My very first third gen, an 87 SC is for sale about 5 minutes from where I live. Kid is asking $1200. I want it so I can rescue it!!!!!

Ok, i might be posting this soon, but i need advice that relates to this topic kinda.

Whenever my mom gets mad at me or whatever and starts talking about me moving out, she says when i do move out, my car has to stay w/ her, but WTF, i paid for my car! I even have the title hid in my room, but it has my mom and dads name on it not mine, butr i still paid the full 7k for it, plus all maintance and insurance and everything. If they keep it, im taking off everything i paid for to replace, tires, exhaust system, sterao system, suspension, and lots of other crap.

KamaroZ350, your not moving out till you're 18 right? So for your 18th birthday all you want is them to sign off the title so you can put it in your name. Easy enough. Don't get too caught up in anticipating bad stuff to come, instead spend a little time learning to roll with the punches. Trust me, pissing off the parents NEVER does "you" any good.
