i am stuck
ok here is what happend. yesterday while going to school i stop at a stop sign. when i try to take of my car has no responseo mash the gas and the rpm dose not climb so i get to the side of the road and the car stops running. i tryed to start it and nothing works it crancks but doses not start what could be the problem the car is a 305 with a carb anyt help would be great
Sounds like your fuel pump died. Easy to see if the fuel bowl is empty on the Quadrajet carb, just remove the air cleaner and work the throttle from idle stop to WOT once or twice...fuel should spray from the accelerator pump nozzles down the two primary venturis. If the fuel bowl is empty, you'll get no gas spray.
At this point you're better off having it towed or picking up a Chilton's manual...if checking for spark is off your chart then diagnosing and fixing won't come easy either.

Actually, just hooking a timing light to some of the wires while cranking and making sure the light fires will do nicely.

Been there done that on my old high school '75 TA when I got too close to a bad plug wire...ZAP ZAP ZAP.

So, do you have spark? Without isolating the failed system (fuel, spark, compression) it will be very difficult to offer any advice.
I didn't mean that you were sarcastic, I was saying that I didn't intend any sarcasm in my response. Anyway, now that we're all buddies again...
You've got spark, which really cuts down the possibilities. Hopefully, the spark is at the correct time. It should be, unless the distributor has been twisted around. Since you apparently have fuel as well (as you could see fuel from the accelerator pump nozzles wheen opening the throttle), you may have a timing issue, or possible flooding.
It's pretty easy to pull a few of the more easily accesible plugs and check their condition. If they are fuel-soaked, caked with oil sludge, or carboned across the gaps, you may have found the problem.
If the plugs are in good condition and dry, you may have a timing problem, so keep that light handy.
