How often to adjust valves....

Just wondering on the intervals for tightening up the valvetrain when you get a new motor. I have a longblock that just hit 10k miles and I haven't pulled a valve cover yet, I figure it's time to tighten them up....I can hear them a little tiny bit, especially with the hood up.

After this adjustment, how long until the next one? 15-20k miles?

Is this a solid or hydraulic lifter cam?

Theoretically, once a hydraulic is properly adjusted, there should be no more adjustment necessary for the life of the engine, unless abnormal wear occurs, a stud pulls, etc.

would you trust a GM goodwrench motor to have the valves adjusted correctly factory?

It's hydraulic.

I have always been told that after a normal amount of time the lifters get set and then the valves should be re-tightened and set. Maybe that's wrong, but I know they are a bit loose and I know that when I pulled my vavle covers off my RS at 80k miles, they needed to be adjusted to, but that was roller, if it matters. I was told you can set them a little tighter than you would initially after a few thousand miles when break in is done for a bit more lift.

i've never adjusted the valves on my 88' roc since i got it. i finally decided to pull the covers and adjust them. yeah they were loose. some were extermely loose. after the adjustment boy the car felt way better, power wise. definite worthwhile job/repair. of course my car has 117K now compared to the 78K when i got it.
