New engine setup should i keep my EGR?

IM installing a SuperRamed 406 I have the option of keeping the EGR or deleting it. I dont have to worry about emissions testing they did away with it here in Florida. What do you guys think? What would be better for performance? I need to know for when it comes time to burn the new chip!

Thanks,
Mike

I would keep it, since it does not detract from performance, and it does keep cylinder temps down, causing less tendency for detonation.

Basically the EGR system has no negatives :-).

Thanks Jeff...Oh yes.. the rattle of death!
I dont know of any good reasons to delete it. My PR chip has an EGR delete too it. Thats why I wondered if I should do away with it. Why would they?

Yah there is a problem with it. Whatever your engine sucks down in recycled exaust fumes, it's not sucking down in fresh air and fuel. Not to mention it gets your engine dirtier, and heating the helll out of the intake charge. I don't know how much diff, if any, it makes on a dyno but in theory it sure doesn't sound healthy to me.

I'd agree with Jester. The PCV doesn't hurt anything (unless you have extreme blow-by), but I wouldn't say the same for EGR. If you don't have to pass emissions, and especially if it's a strip-only car, delete the EGR.

Don't throw it away, though. You may not have emissions testing in Florida today, but there's always tomorrow to the Feds.

Yeah...Maybe ill just hook it all up and when i go too have the chip dynoed see what they say about it.

I did notice swapping the PR chip back and forth for the stock one. That with the stock chip the car would sometimes surge at part throttle tip in. I dont know if it had anything to do with the EGR though.

Thanks!

Mike,

The EGR shouldn't have mattered at throttle tip-in (nor at the strip, for that matter) since the only time an EGR is supposed to be opened is at part-throttle cruise. Idle and WOT should have a fully closed EGR. For the sake of simplicity and space, I can understand why a strip-only car would not have an EGR. Also, most serious manifolds don't have an EGR provision. For most of us weekend warriors, the EGR is not a bad thing - especially for running pump gas.

Yes, what you gain by sucking only "fresh air" you will loose in total timing, thanks to hotter combustion chambers and the onset of detonation.
