heat soak is another name for having a starter without enough *** to get the job done.

It sounds like you have already isolated the problem buddy. Get a heat shield from jegs/summit and you're golden me thinks.

The only other problem that mimics heat soak is the infamous VATS failure... and this is not your problem.

The heat shield will not fit on the SBC if you have Headers. Just buy a Mini-Starter and that will cure your Heat Soak problems.

I def dont have a vats, i have an 87 GTA so i dont have that one, i know that a heat sheild will not fit so im gonna go ahead with the remote solonoid kit from summit and if need be a mini starter..but another question should i wrap the exhaust pipe with something maybe to absorb heat.

also sometimes when i get on the car it will throw a code 43..it hesitates and then kicks in with the power..now thats esc, but is that a bad knock sensor or more than likely the module? and very rarely the MAT sensor goes off. i unplugged it and replugged it and its been fine since. has anyone esle had these sensors go off? maybe someone can inform me of them

I beg to differ, I have the Summit stainless heat shield on my factory (full size) starter and SLP headers passing right by it.

Ok, So you made it fit. Its not a easy installation.

Not too bad, took about an hour and 2 small trims with tinsnips.

Heat shield

Hi,

I have the same problem: if my engine is hot, I can not
start. I have found a heat shield in the JC Whitney 2002 catalog.
Page 194 somewhere in the middle. They write that it is made
of the same material as used on NASA's space-shuttle and it
deflects 65% of the heat.

What do you think? Has anybody this shield in his/her car?
Does it work really well?

Few days ago I created my own heat shield. It is made of 5
layers wavy aluminium but on a hot day I had the problem again.
OK, it was only once, but I had it. Is it my fault? I mean that the
aluminium shield is not good?

Thank you,

Laszlo

Id recommend going with the CSI ultralight starter. It weighs like 6 pounds so your taking a lot of weight off the car and its much smaller which puts it farther away from the headers. You can then get the DEI flexable heat wrap and put that on there and you should never have another heat soak problem.
