Low oil pressure WHY!!!!
ok heres the deal i have a fresh 355 with a HV/HP oil pump in it. the motor is about a year and a half old and its finally running where it shoudl and all/ my problem is i changed the oil abotu a week ago and pulled off my oil filter and the damn thing had a rattling noise liek the insides were loose (FRAM) and so i proceeded to change the oil and the filter with the same. i ran it down the track with 3 passes on it last friday and i took it out tonight and the car only has like 10 psi at idle (1000 rpms) and when you get on it it gets to liek a maximum of about 35 psi and it takes a few seconds for it to get there. now my question is did i suck another filter and if i did would that make a motor lose that much pressure? i know my motor is fine liek i said its about a year old and i know ive never ran it low on oil or anything.

hmm i dont think so it idles liek a dream and all and it still has the power, also it doesnt burn any oil which a broken ring or a piston would do.

About a month or so before my engine started to knock it did the exact same thing. About 10 psi at idle and a max of 30 at any RPM over that. Sounds like one or more of your bearings are shot, bleeding a lot of your pressure. Time for a rebuild! (unless of course there's something wrong with the oil filter, the bypass valve on the adapter that you screw the filter onto, or your pressure sending unit).

an autometer pro comp liquid filled gauge. liek i said the engine is a fresh rebuild theres no way a bearing is shot already i think its gotta be the filter.

Because when it's cold the oil is thick enough to hold a film in the greatly increased bearing clearances. Once it warms up and thins out, it flows through the bearings too fast for the pump to keep up.
Classic wiped-out rod bearing behavior.
You're right about the Fram filters, they are the crappiest ones out there, even worse than Wal-Mart brand or other things you'd be suspicious of. The days when they were the choice of racers for the parts they actually use, not just their sponsor decals, is long gone; they've been resting on their laurels now for about 3 decades that I know of, maybe more than that. I wouldn't put one on anything I own.

yeah the filter i took off a week ago rattled and **** inside so i think this one will be the same too when i take it off tonight. if i had bearing failure and all the engine would knock and all which it doesnt. but say for instance the stuff int he filter rattled would the enigne still have that loss or not?

no oil? Metal? The pump wouldn't shoot out metal shavings cause it has no other surface to cause friction, however, what does is bearings. Like RB so lovely stated, save up for a crank kit and time for a rebuild.
I know people who put togehter engines and didn't even get 10 miles on it before they took a crap

i feel ya, when i was getting my cam in and new transmission, everything went wrong. When I finally got it going I enjoyed driving it around a lil (cause i won't drive it to work, to dirty) and i was going to my friends house n hit a bump at a slow speed and shattered my aluminium oil pan and bumped my transmission pan.
Just when I had it going good, my 350 is down again. lol, don't feel bad. Least you have your life and body to be thankful, theres people who can't even drive due to handicaps let alone have nice cars.
