you should be able to turn it by hand (providing it isn't locked up),
there is no reason it should be hard to turn

you should be able to turn the clutch with a ratchet. if not it's more than likely locked up. that suxs.

Have you tried turning it in both directions to see if there's a point of lockup? If a piston is simply welded to a bore, it won't turn at all.

Yes I did try to turn the comp. in both directions with no luck. Just rocks back and forth. Has anybody ever tried to turn a R-4 comp. over while its mounted on the eng. and fully charged? Would someone try to do that for me? If you could get back to me with that info I would be greatful.:hail:

It should turn by hand, you should feel compression 4 times per revolution, but it shouldn't "lock up".

Sounds like you need another compressor.

when u got to any chain store you look at the compressor say "murray" brand and look at the compressor itself it says remanufactured by fourseasons. all the R4 compressors i have put on my car remanfactured by fourseasons make a LOUD rattling noise when in use. they totally suck ***. even the A/C guy told me they suck ***.
