Solid motor mounts

Any experience with these? How bad does everything shake? My new combo will probably break polyurethane mounts. Does the suspension absorb most vibes at cruising speeds?

GMF,

Another option is the poly mounts with some limiting engineered in. I've even seen an aircraft cable on the left side of the engine to limit torque stress on the mounts (formerly my '66 Chevy). It wasn't pretty, but it worked.

Most mounts have the steel limiting tabs, and some poly mounts may have the same stock design tabs while others have a steel bushing pressed through the poly and the outer mount, effectively limiting the crush on the urethane without damaging or distorting the mount.

Shop around a bit more and you should find something suitable.

i've used the moroso solid mounts in a camaro with no big vibration problems. i'd go with something like mr. vader said to limit the movement of the engine. i use a rod with heim ends and a bracket bolted to the frame and bolted to the head.

Thanks guys! I think I will run the solid mounts and also incorporate the engine anchor. I don't mind a little "rumble & shake".

I might be mistaken but I thought the enclosed (clamshell) design of the third gen (actually they started in the early 70s) motor mounts eliminated the possibility of a broken mount. Is the rubber mount not enclosed under the steel cover that the large bolt goes through?

If you run solid mounts yo dont need an anchor. Also make sure you use a rubber/poly transmount. There is enough flex in these cars that you will break the tailshaft with 3 solid mounts. The 69 Z28's came with rubber mounts and a limiting strap (as Vader described) on the right front mount.

Merf,

Those 7,200 RPM shifts on the old 302 were tough on the mounts and axles, eh?

Just standing next to my buddy's '68 Z hood when he wound to that RPM scared the hell out of me the first time he did it. I didn't want a cranium full of pushrods. He had no trouble with the mounts on it, either.

GMI,

Speaking of other "expensinve" hobbies, any idea where a long slide/barrel can be had for a 1911A Series VII now that Colts' has thrown in the towel? I'm hesitant to use Springfield parts.

I'm very happy with my Springfield 1911. You might try www.wilsoncombat.com or Les Baer Customs...

Lots of GN's I see have a rachet strap from the alt. to the body so the motor wont twist.
