What to do next-- Gears or Intake?

What would give me the best bang for the buck. I currently have 3.27 gears and want to go to 3.70's.
I also want to put on a new intake with large tube runners. I will eventually be rebuilding with a cam and new heads but that's a couple years away.
Which would improve my 1/4 mile times the most?
I know in the long run both of these will have to be done but I want to know which will be most effective by itself.

I personally do not think the 3.70 gears on your set-up will help your et at all... maybe even hurt it. The Runners and new intake manifold would give you a reasonable jump in performance, and will enhance any further modifications you make in the future.

Have a look at my webpage in my signature for some of my experiences with tpi motors.
(Go to the set-up and results" section within the page)

good luck with your decision.

My best ET performance was with 3.27 gears. I'd say go with the intake.

If you're not at the redline in 3rd gear at the end of the 1/4 mile then 3.70 gears would help however "best bang for the buck" doesn't fit the situation. It would be cheaper to find a 3.73 10 bolt and install it than putting 3.70 gears in the BW diff.

The powerband on an L98 is too low to really need gears, 3.27 is good enough. On the other hand, it is VERY starved for an intake..do that.

Any suggestions on which base and runners to get. Edelbrock, TPIS, Arizona Speed and Marine etc. Keep in mind that my eventual goal is to run 12's with the new cam and heads down the road.
I really want to stay with LTR's so I want to get the right ones now so I won't have to change them later. Thanks!

Another suggestion would be to get a higher stall TC.

all the bases are pretty much the same,, you wont be able to tell a perfromance difference. there have been some problems with the Edelbrock bases cast,, i'd stay away from it.

Edelbrock base, with AS&M runners would be the best combo.

I've been hearing that Arizona Speed and Marine makes both regular large tube and siamesed runners. Which would be the better choice?

siamese runners are good if you have a larger cam.. for your application i would reccomend the large tube runners.
