oil pan wont clear 383 crank and balancer is against frame
HELP my car is all together and my oil pan wont clear my crank because of the extra stroke. also my 8" balancer is against the crossmember in the engine bay! what are my options? can i just cut out the baffles in the pan? i was thinking of just clearancing them to make it fit/ also what to do about that vette crossmember.

I just built a 415 for my 86 Vette several weeks ago and I used a 400 GM Vette 6 quart pan. Looks similar to the stock 5 quart pan except the sump extends farther forward. It cleared my 3.825 stroke crank with no mods at all. Of course the dipstick is on the opposite side (driver's.)
What block are you using?
You're definitely going to need a smaller diameter damper unless you plan to butcher the front cross member, which a friend of mine did to his 85. YUCK!

well i am using the late style block so SOL for me but i talked to tpis and they say ballpeen hammer. or stephs or milodin and 400 dollars later. i ordered a fluid damper 6 3/4 for the 400 crank so im in bus. i am doing this project to get 300 rear wheel horses out of a tpi which is stock to look at even for an expert. i want to autox and drag in the low ranks stock classes and destroy. my next project is a 84-96vette with a 434 and carb with 6 speed
I was the one being referring to in the damnper question. You can use the 8 inch balancer just make sure there isnt less than 1/4 of clearance. The motor wont rock forward/back to hit, but if you ever lose a motor mount itll smack it.

i know companies like milodon(sp?) make pans for situations like yours where clearance is a problem
