On an '89 IROC (likely a TPI) the "44" is for a lean exhaust. I'd suggest you start by checking fuel pressure.

Vader's right... Maybe your fuel filter is badly clogged. Does it stall?

Or your fuel pump is taking a dump. It's been known to happen to these cars. But, like the other guys said, check your fuel filter first, it's cheaper.

If it's not the filter...sounds like the pump is overheating maybe. Do you run it below 1/4 tank frequently? Is the problem more pronounced with less gas in the tank?

Yeah i do run with 1/4 tank at times, well most of the time, but like i changed the fuel filter, and it still did it, i changed the ignition coil, and it still does it, so now i dont know what 2 do.

Try running with close to a full tank and see if it does it. If it takes longer to happen, or doesnt happen, then your fuel pump is overheating. That's what it sounds like to me. t's an in-tank pump, so having extra gas in the tank soaks the pump and cools it. Running low on gas lets it heat up too much and burn itself out.

When it starts doing it...if you can keep it running, check your spark. But it really does sound like a fuel delivery issue to me, unless you're like dumping black fumes out your tailpipes.

Get that fuel pressure gauge connected yet? I think it might reveal a lot.
