I just wanted to know what kind of rpm's everyone is winding out to on the strip or where ever? If you are over 6000 what kind of internals are you running? I know there is alot of elements that determine where you make your power, but I am just curious to know. I run a 400 and i run it to about 6000k.

Completely depends upon the set-up and combination.
One particular 383 of which I'm aware shifts at 6500 and goes through the traps here at 6800. Lower elevations, 7000 (Las Vegas) to 7200 (Pomona) RPMs.

much over 6500 poses some problems for 3.75" stroke
Piston speed in feet per min exceeds 4000 (which is traditionally hard on steel rod motors). The peak hp on my 400 is about 6200. I will probably turn it 6500 or slightly higher.

I have a 406 that I have turned 7000 rpm once but usually I let it shift on it's own at 6200. My internals are stock crank, H-beam rods and forged pistons.

We gear the 410 SBC (3.800 stroke, 4.155 bore) dirt modified car 7200-7800 with a $500 Scat crank and a $600 dollar set of Carrillo rods, JE pistons.
I turned my 383 3.75" stroke $225 Scat 9000 crank with $200 Eagle LW rods, SRP pistons, to 6800 many times. I have it down to freshen it up after 17k and a couple hundred hard passes in three years. Nothing broke or bent that I can tell.

Very much depends on combination. The 388 in my car all stock bottom end with cast crank, X beam rods with ARP bolts, and KB hyperutecs i have taken it to 7K for my all out fast passes and the shop that built it, built the motor for mud packing and said it'd live a long time at 7K-I just dont feel comfortable with that. When racing I shift at 6000 and used to cross the traps at 6800-taller tires dropped me to 5900-6000 depending on air, best part I only lost .04 shifting at 6000 over 7000K. short shifted motors will live a loong time.
Truck on the other hand is shifted at 6600 and traps at 6500-needs more rear gear since peak hp was made at 6800 on the dyno.
