Anyone done a 434?
Anyone done a 434?
Just curious to see what parts you used and how it performed? I'd like to do a 434 but I've heard that you can't do it with a stock block because of the crankshaft clearance in regard to the cam. is this true?

Yes.
Eagle crank and ESP rods. I don't recall for certain, but it seems we used an off-the-shelf Comp XR282HR cam.
We put teh Accel Pro Ram on it, with a Haltech.
It ran pretty hard. It was in a 4WD Blazer; last I knew it, the owner didn't have it all the way dialed in, but it was getting close. Then he tore up the trans (700R4). Oh well.
It was a stock block (509).
Don't believe anything you hear from people who haven't done it. Seems like everbody that's never done it will tell you all about it, and they're usually all wrong.

sweet RB, I know ebay links aren't allowed for some reason, but would this be the eagle kit you used by any chance? http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...ayphotohosting it's a 6" ESP rod, 4340 eagle ESP crank and forged Ross pistons in the kit. the 11.8:1 compression is what I'd have with my heads, but I could get a thicker head gasket and try to bump compression down to 11.5:1 and try to run it on 95 octane.
is the pro ram the EFI carbureted style intake? I was thinking a stealth ram on this motor, with a wild cam (260-270 duration) and .600" lift to match my cylinder heads flow (approx 270 cfm at .600" lift) as close as I can to the HSRs flow with a 58mm TB (approx 275). ported plenum of course. I've got a 700r4 pro built that is supposed to handle a BBC torque and 700 HP but we'll see how well it holds up behind a 434. a 2800-6800 rpm powerband would be great, with an ability to spin it out to 7000 rpm if necessary. I've already got 3000 stall and 3.27s, I don't think it'd be too soft on launching with that kind of motor but I'll see when I do it. tell me what you think?

A 434 is usually had by using 4.1550" bore and 4.000" stroke. To the best of my knowledge this is only accomplished by using an aftermarket block, such as, World or Dart. A fully machined ready to biuld World or Dart block is about $2,000. I'm not sure but maybe GM performance blocks might be able to be bored to 4.1550".
For a 434, I think something special has to be done with the cam,, either small base circle or relocating the cam position higher in the block.
BTW: I am doing a 395cu in. stroker motor using a stock 4 bolt GM L98 block.
