How important is the Oil Cooler?

I was wondering how important it is to have the oil cooler on?? I am doing an engine swap and was looking at the lines and the cooler and was wondering if that thing really does anything? can you guys fill me in?

i have an oil cooler for the basic fact my brother installed it prior to me buying it from him...

if it didnt have one, i still think it wouldnt hve one...

I would though install a tranny cooler.

im not saying they are totally nec but anything you can do to hel p the car run cooler is good...and if you can give the main lubricant some help...why not...

well the way i see it..the water in the motor goes all around the clynders and everything but the oil is inthere....so it hsa a better opportunity to cool..if it is cool itself

I figure most oil sumps (on the pan itself) gets direct cooling air (i guess not in town, but what good is a oil cooler if there isnt a fan pushing air threw it while at idle)

but when in motion, my theory is air is flowing all around the sump n up through the oil pan area as oil is pumped through it..

I think oil coolers are only good for alot of town driving or racing at the track..

what do i know though, you surely cant argue with the fact of "why not, it will only help"

If you hve the $ n time n know-so, you dont need to be asking any question and get to work!
