What Cam?
What cam do you think would be better for this motor? 85 tpi 305 9.5 compression that has been changed to a edelbrock rpm intake and a holley 650 carb, 700r4 and a 3:42 gear. I would like to get a summit cam sense they are cheaper. Thank you

Neither of those cams is worth the price. I would not use either one even if they were free.
You're talking a difference of practically pennies between those old crappy generic cams (especially the second one.... ugh) and a good, modern, appropriate cam. The first one isn't as bad, but you can still do a whole lot better. You're going to go through all sorts of labor, you'll spend a whole bunch of other money on gaskets, hoses, fluids, and so on. Why shoot yourself in the foot that bad over that little money?
For $18 more you can get a Comp XE cam. $18 .... The similar Crane products are about the same price. Your car will run so much better with one of those cams compared to those lazy ancient grinds, it isn't funny. Don't do that to yourself.
I'd go with the Comp XE262 for that combo.

IIRC, Crane is giving free lifters when you buy an Energizer cam. $99.95 at www.Summitracing.com
$20 more including lifters.

An XE cam for $100 does not include lifters. The kit for the lifters is $170.
The K-kit is EVERYTHING - camshaft, lifters, valve springs, retainers, locks, valve seals, timing set, assembly lube, instructions, and decals (gotta have those stickers
) for $310Who's money is this? Yours or his?

The Summit/Generic cams are not near as lazy as RB would have you believe. but....
With only a 2200stall converter on a 305 you don't want to get too carried away with the cam though.
The summit K1103 would be the largest you'd want.
214-224-.442-.465-112
The summit K1102 would be the one for a stock converter.
If you want to use a larger cam (224+@.050") wether Summit brand, Comp XE series or whatever, you would want a 3000+stall converter for a 305 as the low end torque would be less than stock.
We're talking about a 9.5" high stall for a 700r4.
Choose something in the 204 to 218 range at .050"

My combo isn't a lot different than your's. If you need to retain bottom end power and torque you will have to forego a really lumpy bumpstick. Just the way it is with a 305, and keeping some bottom end torque makes for a much more enjoyable daily driver anyway
So ... try a Crane PowerMax 260 or 266, or a Comp XE 256 or even the 262--which a few folks here really like.
Also, don't dismiss what F-Bird'88 has to say. He's a real guru, like RB83L69. Both have helped me a ton :hail:

not that it matters, but i just ordered the comp nx262 for my 85 305.
mine isn't a daily driver though. i've put >200 miles on it in the last 2 years.
