engine siezed... cam/lifters still good?

my gf decided to perform that castrol commercial experiment where they drain all the oil out of the car and see how long it will run for. it decided to stop yesterday.

i put the engine in the car about 9 months ago, i put a cam in it when i did it. what are the chances the cam + lifters would be okay to put in the new engine? thoughts?

i have a 30k motor from a friend that i can put in. but if the cam is roasty toasty shes just getting the next motor put in as-is cos she wont have enough dough to get another one.

They should put a warning on those commercials "DO NOT TRY THIS AT HOME!"

With no oil the cam would be one of first things to go, next to bearings.

it seems un likely, but they might be. As long as the cam has no vissual problems. i'd mic it tho. The lifters are liable to be full of metal tho,

SURVEY SAYS....

cam is still good. not a mark on it. the engine lost rod bearings on 1&2, but there were no other signs of damage inside.

too bad the "new" motor is a roller motor. guess i can save this cam and put it in something else. it has about 10k on it, if not less, still looks brand new.

Even with the lack of visual defects on the lobs, the cam itself may have twisted or it might have micron cracks from the heat (who knows).
It's not even a thought, it's like reusing a bearing that looks good from the same assembly. Forget it - it's a paper weight and the lifters with it.

You *could* still use it even in the roller block ...if your budgets tight.

Could they have survived? Possibly.
Did they survive? Not likely.
