What cars came with the 416 heads
I'm swapping out my LO3 heads for a better set of 416's what cars came with these heads, so when I go to get them, I'll know where to look.
BTW, they are going to be port & polish and new seals, guides, and valves if necessary.

Just about every passenger car with a 305 in it from 83 to 85.... Camaro/Firebird, Monte Carlo/Cutlass/Grand Prix, Caprice, even pickup trucks. They're one of the most common head castings you'll find just laying around these days.

in that case, would my 82 T/A have them? if so, i may have some good heads to sell you, tyty49. I would go look, but the 305 is at my buddy's house across town.

Yea just about every passenger car (81-86) with a 305 came with 416's. Trucks are more likely to have 601's which have smaller 55cc chambers and flow better in stock form.

no 55cc
trucks didnt get Lg4 or L69 engines, most of the truck 306 heads are 72 or 75cc and are 1.94 heads, truck engines were built pretty much opposite of car engines, truck engines are hi torque, they are built to put out more torque and are usually lower hp output,
624 heads are common on trucks but are junk
i had a stock totally rebuilt 1980 Caprice LG4 with the original aluminum intake and a stock roch Q jet and it had 416 heads it ran very strong and i put into a 68 pickup with 3.73 12 bolt and it ran damn fast it would start to lift the front of the truck noticeable upon take off, it was a fun ride for straight racing, later i out in a 3970010 block .030 over 355 with unknown camshaft and i dont remember much of any difference in performance, i had the stock three on column SM325 manual tranny for a while with the 305 and then converted to th350

Most 305 truck heads are super crap. The worst heads ever made. 1.72" valves and 60-64 cc's. Crap 8:1 compression 305. MMM mmm good.

Trucks did to get the L69 engines
It came in my 1983 Chevy Van all 180 horsepower of it
Those are pretty good ones!!! Where do you come up with all these? You're almost ready to quit your day job and go full-time on the comedy circuit!
Trucks (and vans) didn't get L69s. They came with something pretty similar to the LG4, with about 140-150 HP in those years. Go check your VIN and see if it has a 7, like L69 cars in 83 such as mine had.
All of the parts that Fast68 mentioned are on 350s, not 305s. He's right about them being crap, except for the blocks (and rods and sometimes cranks); but none of those have anything to do with 305s generally or 416 heads specifically.
The full casting # on those heads is 14014416.

You can have a L69 with 601 heads, plenty of Monte Carlo SS came that way. I have had a few apart and they almost all had 601s. The 601 heads have 55cc chambers as stated. They have 1.84 & 1.50 valves. The ports actually flow better than the 416 heads. I would rather have the 601s than the 416s. The 601 flow about 210 cfm @ .450 lift on the intake and 165 @ .450" lift on the exhaust. This was @ a 28 in/H20 pressure drop.
Don't you think I know what I have under my hood. It is a L69 305 factory rated @ 180 hp @ 4400 rpm & 255 ft/lbs @ 2500. The advertised compression ratio was 9.5:1. The van engines are more like the L69 than the LG4. Mine came with Flattop pistons (4 valve reliefs), the factory cam measured .404" & .415". I got this by measuring the lobe side (and base circle) with dial calipers then subtracting it from the base circle then multiplying by 1.5 for the rocker arm. I know that this engine has 4 bolt mains and forged crank and rods too. I think it has a L82 style crank and rods in it. The parting line on the crank is real wide not real skinny like the cast ones. The rods also have an X on the beams. My van 305 came with dual exhaust and the high flow cat too, it never had a pellet box type cat. The vans also used the old Z/28 style manifolds not the crummy 80s ones that everyone else used. The vans did not use the computer carb like the cars did though. The vans came with aluminum intakes too. The 8th digit on my vin is a 7. I know the van was stock because my parents bought it in 1983 new @ the dealership. The RPO code sheet under the hood has L69 on it as well as LE9. The factory air cleaner has 5.0 HO on it and came with a huge opening compared to most van air cleaners.
Sorry for the van rant but I do know what is under my hood and am sick of people telling me what I have and don't have. I know what is there, don't believe me if you don't want to, but its there and came that way.
Moral of the story, don't argue with someone who knows that his Chevy Van came from GM with a HO 305.
