remove the lower dash kick panel if its still there, remove the under steering column panel, drop the steering column down, pull the cluster out.

why do i have to drop the steering column to pull the dash cluster out?

it looks like two bolts in the light sockets that i need to remove but i cant reach those either.

getting angry doesnt normally help, just a word of advice. on a side note I never removed my dash pad or speakers or anything, I did mine from the bottom, then again I didnt follow any directions, I just did it so I guess my method differs from the one in the manual..

well at least explain dropping the steering column?

did you take out the four bolts underneath?

how did that help you reach the cable?

oh and does the cable just slide on or does it screw on?

If you drop the steering column and pull the instrument cluster forwards, you'll have more room to get your hands behind the cluster to unclip the speedometer cable housing from the speedometer. Feel around the end of the cable housing for a sheet metal tab around it and press it against the speedometer to release it.

what he said, and yeah the four bolts under neath, that should drop it down far enough, might also wanna take the 3 bolts out where it goes through the firewall but not completely nessicary

When I did mine, it snapped in. You may have to push the clip in just like you did to remove it. Push it down, push the cable in, release clip. It can be a real PITA.

well originally, it bounced real bad, and eventually just sat at 0 again even while driving, i pulled the cable back out, pushed the wire in so it would have better contact at the tranny part, then i got it to fit on the speedo pretty well, now when i drive, it bounces around at around a 10mph range.

and no i didnt lube the speedo wire first

it didnt come with any lube

was i supposed too?

would that help the bouncing?

The rolled flange at the end of the cable housing has to click into that springy retainer on the speedometer. If you're having trouble getting it to go on all the way, turn the shaft on the back of the speedometer slightly and try again. The end of the cable is square and it has to be aligned with the square hole in the speedometer shaft. Bouncing could also be because the cable is sticking in the housing somewhere, this could be because the cable wasn't lubricated properly, or because there's a kink in it.

Some cables come pre-lubricated.
