I was going to mention the tech article here (at https://www.thirdgen.org/newdesign/tech/tpimod2.shtml ) , but I noticed it doesn't say which wires to connect the voltmeter to. The original article in Hot Rod had a picture next to it that showed the detail...

Looking at the TPS installed on the TB you use the top and middle wire.
The lower wire is a reference voltage wire and isn't used for setting the TPS voltage.
It doesn't matter which wires your voltmeter leads connect to; either positive to the top wire or negative to the top wire. If you connect it one way you get a positive reading on your voltmeter and if you connect it the other way your digital voltmeter will just show a - (negative) sign before the reading.
The top wire is the one you'd connect the negative voltmeter wire to and the center wire gets the positive.
The lower wire can be used to check the reference voltage, which should be 5 volts.

The references I've seen say to remove this jumper wire/paper clip before starting the engine.
It's my understanding that inserting the jumper wire into the A&B terminals of the ALDL causes the IAC pintle to fully extend (close of the air passage), thus establishing a new reference point for the ECM to set IAC counts.
So once the IAC pintle has been fully extended (that's why the 30 seconds), the jumper has done it's job, so the IAC connector is then unplugged and min idle is set.
Has anyone else come across any other source saying to leave the jumper in place on the ALDL when starting the engine?
I'm concerned that this my damage the ECM.

The ALDL is in the driver compartment. Right about where your right knee would be. It has a bunch of pins in the connectors, the tech article can help you better. It's the one that tells you how to check your own codes.
