My iroc has a problem, anyone ever have this problem?

Hey guys listen to this i Took my car out for a drive and it has a stalling problem. When you are coming to a stop light it takes the rpms down and it will just shut off, also you can put it in reverse or drive and sit there with youre foot on the brake and the engine will (miss) and shut off. When you drive it down the road about 50mph it start (buckin) but runs fine when its going down the road. I have chagned the knock sensor because it thru a code 42. Now it thru another code or the o2 and it needs an o2 sensor. I also put a ground strap on it from the engine to the chassis.

Does anyone have any suggestions on what to do next????

Thanks, Brian

step one would be to identify what type of induction system you are running, carb, tbi, tpi?

I'd guess it's TPI if its an IROC.

These are the things that I have dealt with (on my 350 TPI) regarding idle/missing problems:

1) bad fuel injectors
2) bad IAC (full of carbon & compressed)
3) bad Fuel Pump

It has been my experience that any one of the 3 above will cause the car to surge and/or miss.

You may also want to check for vacuum leaks and replace the fuel filter.

I have no experience with 305 TPI's or TPI engine swaps, so my advice may or may not be that helpful.

Best of luck.

I have an answer, and I am pretty sure the correct one as well, however, it's not for a small minded person like you.

This comment is, to say the least, discourteous, particularly to our female members. A polite suggestion, get rid of it. Not for me mind you, but heaven forbid some litigious crazy gets on and sees it, I like this board and don't want it screwed but some dolt who made an idiotic tagline.

Now my second question for you is this, what bothers you so much about Fords? My vette doesn't bother you but my Cobra does? My 'burban is fine but my SHO isn't? I don't get it? Educate yourself a bit.

Since you put the TPI on this engine, I would check for a vacuum leak in the area of the intake gasket.

I had this exact same problem about 2 years ago, turned out it was my disributor, there was a white metal piece inside there that just crumbled away, leaving only about 3/4s of it intact.

When the car was above idle, it would spin enough so the car ran pretty good, would buck sometiimes though, and stall at every corner.

I rebuilt the whole dist. and that solved the problem. Take off your cap, have a look in there, look for and broken pieces of white metal, and or any cracking in the parts.

Sorry, can't remember the name of the one part that was broke, but if it is, you'll see it right away, it's available from the dealer.

From everything that you've described it sounds like a converter problem. Just like Pete said, your converter may not be unlocking at low speed/stopped. It may feel like an egine miss/stall but check to make sure your converter is unlocking before you go any further.

I don't know about you guys, but I believe him. It's not the converter/TCC. Bresides, he's probably already checked it the easy way by unplugging it anyway.

Liquuid,

Have you checked or replaced the failing O² sensor yet? That will make a big difference in part throttle fuel mixture, and could be part of the "bucking" problem. It's easy to get out and in from the top.
