Good-bye 305 L69

Hello 350ci crate motor with 366hp. Got a
great deal on Ebay with a brand new motor from All Chevy Engines from Texas. Motor was
only a couple of towns away and the persons
project car(body)was stolen so he just dumped
everything. Wanted some feedback from an audience that knows cars well....like you guys. New 4 bolt main, good chevy rods/w/ARP
bolts, cast crank, World S/R Torquer heads,
TRW hypers, single pattern Crane .467 @ 222
deg.. Motor will be finished w/TES, ZZ4 intake and comp control Qjet, and stock HEI. Car now has run 14.2xx with 250 estimated crank hp out of a basically stock
L69. I know I have really supported the 305
guys for the past couple of years and the car
has really surprised both me and a lot of you
considering the conservative mods. But I am
feeling the need for a little more and I just couldn't pass up the deal......shooting for some high 12's.....what do you think ?

Someone actually offered me $200 for the
L69. I thought 305's were worthless for
resale. It does have only 56,000 original miles...

yeah, same heads as Lg4. That L69 cam and lifters are worth grabbing if really low mileage.

Wanted a good set to work on while keeping the current engine running. The Worlds are starting to look less & less likely with what I've been spending to get the '57 going again.

Nice. Put your 1.6 rockers on it.

If it doesn't have it, you'll need a block-off plate for the hot-air choke passage on the intake. I'm looking for those pieces for mine (have p/n's, just haven't checked w/dealer yet).

I made a block off plate myself from a 1/4"
thick piece of Al. They wanted $14 for one
at the local parts store...

Tom,
How much of a difference did the jetchip make for you? Are you the original owner of the car. I believe you got a 14.20 out of your car but am amazed at the time considering you just did simple mods. Also, how much did the 1.6 rockers improve the performance? Did you do all the mods at the same time? I am thinking about the stage 2 chip but was wondering if it really improves by 10-15hp. You can see the mods I've done in my signature bloc and I'm only running mid 14's. Thanks in advance for your help,
Craig

Craig, I am not the original owner of the car
but it was completely stock when I purchased
it with 54,000 miles. I didnt notice any changes with the chip but wanted the stage 2 because it is an off road design and thought it might make the computer less sensitive to future changes. The rockers netted me about
1.5 mph which translates to 15hp. I did a lot
of tweeking to the secondaries on the carb,
look up Damons tech article...very good stuff
for an L69. Also work on weight when you go to the strip - front sway bar, front seat
spare...etc. Traction like a drag radial should be worth .2 or .3 with your combo....
