J-Mon,

Properly cared for, the 262 V-6 will go about eleventy-jillion miles without major problems. The S10 may be a different story, however. Make sure the transfer case and front CV joints are in good condition. Check the door bottoms and rocker panels for corrosion - these are areas prone to rust on the S trucks. Also take a close look at the floor pan in the passenger footwell areas - another weak spot. Other than that, they can be a very reliable vehicle.

I had an 89 GMC Jimmy 4wd, and everything but the engine went bad in it. Course i was in Spain when most of it broke so it drove me crazy when the truck broke the drive shaft to axle seal and i had to wait 2 months for a new one. Word of advise, if anyone goes overseas with an american car, BRING SPARE PARTS. They don't have them. My .02 cents

I have a 92 S-10 Blazer 4X4. I bought it to replace my 89 when it crapped out on me. What do you want to know about them? I love mine. It's your general purpose go everywhere anytime SUV.

4100 lbs, 19 Gal tank, Mine gets about 20-21 mpg. I've got a fully loaded tahoe, with skidplates. I hope you don't have to change the engine, Have to jack the body off the mounts to get the tranny bolts.

How much do they want for it?

it is a 92 4wd extended cab. No rust anywhere underbody doors rockers, nowhere. For an Indiana trk, that was surprising. it has 92k on it and has been well maintained. CV joints looked good (no leaks, splits, that is all I know about them). It drives great and has new tires. He wants 4500 for it.

well if you buy preformance parts for then you'll get parts for a 350 and end up with a big box or spares. i have a 4.3 in my jimmy too, nice ride and great engine. some people actually try preformance build ups with the 4.3, but i won't comment on that endevor.

$4500 is a fair price, I paid $6000 for my blazer with a few more miles on it. If you get it (for $4500 I would) Ede is right, when you buy pistons you pay the same amount as for 350 pistons alot of the time. The only mods I'd do is a TBI spacer and maybe underdrive pulleys.

We use ours for a family car and I can honestly say, I've ridden my previous ones hard and they have been real reliable. When my 89 blew the head gasket at 192k, I drove it 150 miles home from a hunting trip. When I tore it down the short block looked great. Two new gaskets, rebuilt the heads and at 260K the new owner hasn't had anymore probs. The only prob I can see is if you have to change the engine in it. Never before have I seen a bigger nightmare. If I ever do it again I'll make it worth the effort and put a 350 in mine.

Friend of mine has a 94 S10 with a 4.3 Vortec. It has something called a spider injector. All the injectors are in one unit. When they start to leak down the whole unit needs to be replaced at the tune of $700.
If it has this type injector system, I'd have it checked for leak down. Symptoms were EGR valve kept going out on the truck.

In 94 IIRC all 4.3's were central port injection. 92 and (I think) 93 were the change over years. The CPI was called the 4.3HO and had an internal balance shaft. I don't like the HO as much and the two are not exactly interchangable. About the only thing I like more on the HO is the injection and the 35 extra HP. Chances are it's the TBI, it's real easy to tell them apart, if it has the big round aircleaner on top it's a TBI

It is a TBI and for a daily driver and work trk (concrete) I think it will work great. Thanks for all the great responses.

S-trucks are great, IMO. Sounds like you've got a good deal going, and fortunately your prospect is not a CFI model. My '98 is a variant on the original CFI design but she still purrs like a kitten. I'd rather lose my left n@t than part with my baby Blazer .

Not all 4.3's were CPI in 94. it was still available as tbi until end of 95 year.
