Oil Filter Confussion
I went to service me 82 Firebird 2.8L V6 today and am confussed about the oil Filter. I live in Ireland and have to order all parts for an American car from the UK. I ordered an oil filter for my car and it is a lot smaller in size to what is on the car already. It is made by PRO/GAUGE and the number on the filter is PGO-111. I can't find anything about it on the Internet. I drive a 1 liter car as my daily driver and its oil filter is bigger than this one. Has anyone heard of these filters or know if it is the correct one for my 2.8L?.

Axle/Gears: BW 9-bolt L.S.
Any Vauxhall/Opel/GM dealer can suplie your parts!
Use either Delco or Fram filters.
Look at the Fram website (WWW.FRAM.COM) for the correct part number and any local carpart supplier can order it for you.
(and Fram filters are much better than some here will tell you!)
Send the already ordered filter back, never heard of it!

And then there are the very many who wouldn't put a Fram on if it was the last thing on the shelf. The quality is crap and the plain just suck.

Do it matter what oil you are using when deciding on a filter. I am using the older mineral oil 20W-50. The Purolator filter looks small in size.

No, it doesn't realy matter, any good brand is fine, just change it often, together with the oilfilter, after like, 5000-7500 KM.
I'm using Castrol RS 0W40 full synthetic, been using Pennzoil
20W50 dyno oil for years, but changed to synthetic at last, without any problems.
PS that so called "oilfilter studie" is pure B.S. in my opinion!
Fram is the largest filter manufacturer in the world, they are supplier of factory filters for almost all new european cars, they even make a lot of other brands used by people that swore never to use Fram........

what Fram makes for OE specs on new cars, and what they consider adequate for a filter thats been out since the 60s are two totally diffrent things.

As to the biggest manufacturer in the world. I'm not so sure. I remember some stink in New Zeland in 95/96 which a licensee for Fram was brought in to testify on dumping practices. Lo and behold this co, IIRC Sphinxs or Spinxs?, imported only a few Fram products and manufactured the rest themselves and just labeled them Fram. A lot of companies do that rather than do all the manufacturing themselves. I was under the impression that Champion was top dog of manufactured stuff as they are the company which sells all their stuff to get labeled.
Granted, just my opinion though.

WWW.METZCON.COM/FBODYMANUAL/ORDER.HTM
So you can find the correct partnumber you need, and than order it at any local Vauxhall/Opel dealer.
As far for the oilfilter, I realy think any well known brand is fine, as long as you change it often, with every oil change.
I use Delco UPF 1218 (partnr. 25322841) for my Firebird (don't know if it fits the 2.8 V-6 though), but Fram for my daily drivers, two Fiat's. (the Fiat's recommend Fram on a note under the hood.....!!!)

I went down to my local out store and they only stock MANN Filters. They had Firebirds listed on there Cathalogs which was big supprise so I was able to get the correct Filter. MANN is a good brand as far as I know. WEll only time will tell.
