Trick Flow heads... not a big difference

I just got done bolting on my Trick Flow 23 degree heads. Well... I noticed a difference, the car got louder... but as far as power goes... it's not even a SOTP difference. It's true I didnt dial the chip in and I'm still running the stock unported intake, but shouldnt these heads be a lot better then a pair of ported L98s ?? LOL I feel like 900 bucks went to waste...

sometimes people bolt aluminum heads on a 350 with similar sized 64cc chambers, and also use some pretty thick fel-pro head gaskets dropping the compression below 9.5:1

this is a common mistake and does not put the aluminum of the heads to work for you.
You should shoot for 11:1 or more with aluminum heads to get good combustion efficiency with pump gas.

of course the engine needs some re-tuning after a head swap like that.

sound like you got tricked out of cash flow!
. i was reading that world 23's on a so called mildly built 350 made 550hp. yea ****** right. what are the size of the combustion chamebers on your trick flows?
i had a set on my truck that were 64cc. not much more improvment over stock 72cc. I traded those for a set of cast iron 58cc "601" series heads mildly ported an whooooah what a difference i cant run gas that isnt doctered up with octane boost but a major improvment over trick flow. I dont think porting your intake will help much it dident for me anyway. the bright side is that you get so add an expensive item to your signature

Well, I used the headgaskets recommended by Trick Flow on the installation sheet. I was thinking about messing with the chip to make em run better, but I might as well wait for the intake to show up and bolt it on first, then mess with the EPROM. I did notice that when you push the throtle down about 20% or so very quickly and the ECM enters power enrichment mode, it feels like a small shot of nitrous! So I think they need more fuel added.

That sounds like a good plan. The stock lower intakes flat out suck. I am sure you will see improvement with the new one. Waiting until it is one there to mess with tuning is also a good idea

Yeah, might as well. It's not worth getting all the values just right and perfect 128 BLMS with this intake on, and when I bolt the Accel on all that's gonna change and I have to start all over again. LOL

I guess it depends on how long it takes one to get the VE tables right. Might want to consider having the heads milled while you are at it. Aluminum heads with equal compression ratios of iron heads tend to have slightly lower performance. With those heads, you should easily handle 10.5:1 from the stock 9.75:1.

It wasn't THAT BAD was it? Besides, you'll have to remove the intake to replace the base. That's a sginificant chunk of the work.

Do it right, do it once (more).

Yeah! It was! Plus I cant have more then two days downtime since this is my daily driver. I'll bolt the intake on first, then I'll see how it does. Just changing the intake is a breeze compared to taking the heads off.
