Engine Problems

Hi I am new to this site and i've found it very interesting but i have a problem with my car.
It's Camaro 89' RS with 2.8 L V6 MPFI injection.
I have 3 main problems that I'd like to solve they are:
1. Excessive fuel consumption
2. Very Rough idle or idles very erratically(Sometimes cuts out)
3. Engine has no power

Anybody has an idea what could be a problem??

Thanks!

Welcome to ThirdGen.org!

There are many possibilities.

Is all required maintenance current? Filters, ignition system, fluids?

The first things I check on 2.8s are 02 sensors and MAF modules... when an 02 sensor goes out, it will do everything you just described.

Your assumption is correct. However, the presence of the code doesn't necessarily mean the MAF is faulty. There are many reasons a "34" can be generated with a GOOD MAF.

I had a 350 that did that just because the plugs were bad. I would check that first.

My second choice would be a coil with a crack in it. Open the hood in the dark and see if you see any blue sparks around the coil with the engine running. Happened to my sons 2.8 and a new coil made it run like new.

Third choice is 02 sensor. My cavalier was doing exactly all three things you said and it was the 02 sensor.

I have changed about 3 MAF sensors because that was what the code indicated and each time it was something else. I have actually never seen a bad MAF sensor.

i'd back up to Mr Vader's first reply. do the tune up maintance stuff so you know you have a solid foundation to start with then scan for codes and look a little deeper into any remaining problems.
