MSD ignition box? What code did it throw? Did you change your coil/wires/plugs?

Just fold a paper clip and stick it into the two top right holes in the socket under your steering column... it looks like this

= = = = = = = = 0 0

= = = = = = = = = =

kind of.. hehe.. the '0's are what you want to connect with the paper clip. When you find out what code it is we can probably help you better =p three bleeps means 3, four means 4. A twelve means its working correctly, you may have to cycle through a bunch of 12s before you get the real code.

MSD coil and Ignition/new wires & plugs
but it wont start with stock ign. either

ARE YOU SERIOUS
you can do that ????? it will make a beep
when you connect thoes two together ???
and be able to tell what code it is??

WOW I never heard of that
so just connect thoes two jumpers together with a paper clip and count the beeps?
THANKS

Yeah, it flashes not beeps.. Turn your key and put it in accessory mode, dont start it, then connect the paper clip and record your codes. You can look for what they mean on the main thirdgen page.

Well 12s are good, but that doesn't show your problem... I forget how many codes can be stored, but it is a lot. If you want, disconnect your battery for a while to erase them, then try to start the car and see if you get a different code.

When you turn the key does your car just sit there and the ses light turns on? Could be many things.. Fuel pump goes on? All conenctions good?

Last year I changed my whole ignition system to msd and my starter just decided to die at the same time, so I couldn't figure it out because I had everything done correctly.

Fuel pump primes up ok... connections ok.... the SES light comes on once and blinks and then stays on....and the motor turns over fine just wont start

rember it wont start with MSD or stock igniton I tried both

any other Ideas.....or was that long enough to wait for codes???

hmmm.. really sounds like my starter problem, have you tried bypassing the solenoid? Might have fried something somehow. Try looking under your distributor cap, maybe old rotor couldn't take it, unless you changed that.

Its got to be an ignition problem. Sounds like the coil really.. Are you sure its connected right? I know it is kind of hard to do wrong, but maybe something isn't getting connection.

I never really time it, but it always feels like forever to retrieve those codes.. I need to get some sleep, work tomorrow at 7am Good luck man.

Ok, 12's are good like they said, but you don't need to clear anything! There is nothing to clear, 12 means the computer is operating fine, and since it kept flashing 12's you have no codes (Just for others benefit, it will flash 12 3 times, then the first code 3 times, the next code 3 times, etc, end of stored codes is 12 3 times again.

As for the SES being on, At least in my car (when it's functioning 100% if the key is in the run position, but the engine not running, the SES stays on.

As for your problem. First the simple things, Distributer cap and rotor, casts about $12 and you probably need to replace them anyways. Next check the resistance of the wires with a multimeter, it should be realitivly low. (if it's in the 10,000's you have a problem, even in the 1000's but that wouldn't cause the problem you are having) Check the distributer connecitons to the ignition boxes (MSD obviouly preferred) Check that the power wires for the MSD are SECURLY in. If all that seems ok, well, something could be wrong with the ignition boxes (hard to believe that both could go) However, if say the alternator was dieing and sending spikes through to the ignition control boxes, they could have both fried, or if any regulators between the power source and the ignition boxes (which should be minimal to NONE (like mine . ) aren't regulating, again, both boxes could have fried.

Post the results
Corry
