Is this car worth my $$$ ???

Hey everybody, I'm new to this board and right now I am planning on buying a Camaro.

I just found an ok RS nearby, and I would like the professionals' opinion on whether or not I should buy it or keep looking

The Car's a:
- '90 RS 5.0 V-8 TBI
- 100,000 miles
- Automatic Trans (dont know which one)
- Everything Stock
- T-Tops

The Car's problems:
- The Transmission jerks the whole car when sitching from 1st to 2nd. Can this be fixed or do I have to replace the transmission? If so approx. how much will it cost?
- The T-Tops leak a little bit, I would like to replace the stripping, approx. how much for that?
- Engine doesn't seem to pull very well (only Test-Frove 1 block though), what can cause this, or was it just my imagination?
- Minor exterior dents and scrathces

Now my question si about how long will this car last me (as an everyday driver, taken good care of)? How much should I offer? And finally how much would all the repairs cost?
(my preice roof is 6000$ for car+repairs, excluding mods)

Thx a lot people, I really apreciate all the help youre giving me, becasue I really want a good Camaro

If u want a really good car, I wouldn't get that 1, it depends what u are looking for and how much $$ u want to spend.

I live in NJ, its kinf of hard to find a decent third-gen Cmaro for sale nearby. If I could find an IROC for under 5,000$, I would be happy.

Anyways can I find a better Camaro for under 5,000$?

Problem #1: alot of people would pay money to obtain that problem. Those usually are too slushy. Adjustment of the cable may soften it up some though. As long as the trans fluid is bright red, no brown and no burnt smell, it's OK.

Problem #2: it's very difficult to get these cars to seal up in that area. A bead of gorilla snot behind the weatherstrip often cures it though, or at least helps it out greatly. It's caused by water getting between the rubber and the body.

Problem #3: welcome to stock TBI. It's not a hot rod. If that's what you wnat, don't buy it, get a Z28 or IROC or T/A or GTA, with TPI instead of TBI. It will cost you more to change over to another motor than it will to just get a car with a decent motor to start with.

Problem #4: it's a used car.

I don't see anything in your list that would tear up a $5, unless you're serious about getting body & paint work done. I think the car is about a $2000 car, $2500 tops. That's only if it's rust free — and I don't mean just a little rust, I said rust-FREE. It could last another 100,000 miles maybe; I'd say you could safely bet on 50,000 with proper maintenance.

Thx for the help

I am very happy to hear that the transmission problem isn't serious (probably), and I was gonna offer 2,000 anyways. I always wanted the TPI, but its sooo hard to find them here in NJ. Do stock RS's come with TPI or only Z-28's and F-Birds??

BTW Does anybody know a web-site where there are A LOT of third-gen Classifieds (area specific if possible)

Thx for all the help guys

If you really want a Camaro, try this link.
I don't know where you live, exactly, so you might want to modify the search a little. I found 34 Camaros for less than $5000 that were between 1987-92 within NJ. It took 2 seconds.

Why dont u guys go to those carbuysers add newspapers, there only like 1.25 and ive seen so many camaro's, iroc's and z28 for 1,500 with TPI's and five speeds. People need to get rid of these cars cause of gas mileage, expecting a child. I guarantee ull find a nice one in those adds. Dont buy that TBI, not worth it, get a TPI

Thnx a lot guys, listening to you I already found two or three IROCs I might be interested in, and that would make me much happier then the TBI RS.

BTW how many mpg can I expect form a 350TPI Iroc, about 10 in the city?

Thx
