My baby won't start
Ok....so i just dropped a rebuilt 350 motor into my 86 IROC. It was turning over but not starting.....so i went to adjust the timing on the distributor and when i went to start it again...nothing. I have checked all of my connections throughout the whole ignition and cant find anything.....can anyone help me?

Is this a freshly built engine? Not some crate? Is the timing set lined up dot to dot? If yes, was the distributor installed pointing to #6, not #1?

Make sure your getting power to the small terminal with the key in the crank position. Do you even have 12v to the big terminal. Easy way to check that without a meter is to use a screwdriver and connect the two terminals.

P.S. don't get confused and connect the harness for the MAT into the ignition module instead of the ignition coil harness. The connectors are the same.

First, as said, make sure you're getting fuel/air/spark. Next, check to be sure you're getting spark at the right moment- it's very easy to be 180 off, or even just out of sync. Next, if your car still won't turn over, be sure your valves are properly adjusted. That was my problem. Other than that, you're set. All it takes for a car to start is fuel, air, spark, and compression. Many people forget about compression.
