did they change the size of the block plug for knock sen about 84?

A friend is putting a 350 in a truck that had a 305. The truck is a 85 i think and when they went to put in the 305 KS it was too big. The 350 is a pre 85 with 2 piece oil seal. I was not aware they changed those. Can he get a KS for a 350 pre 84?(i thought they did not go with computer controled spark much earlier than that).

Ive used a 90-91 knock sensor in a 1971 block. So I know the later ones will work in the older blocks. Unless they used a larger sensor in 85 it should work. They are kinda tricky to start the treads.

all are 1/4" NPT, the senser just uses a hole made for the block drain plugs.

I had that same problem when i was instaling my new 383 it was out of an old camaro 4 bolt 2 piece. I had to get a tap and lots of wd 40 to get it in but the hole seems the right size but I think that the thread is wrong.

No. They are all ¼" pipe. However, the factory used steel plugs, and the whole arrangement has a tendency to rust together severely, so even after the plug is removed, the threads are often too small or damaged or almost non-existent.

Just get a tap and clean up the hole, it should then fit fine.

i still did not climb under there but, he said he had to get two adapters or bushings to make it fit. The ks is supposely bigger slightly. The engine rebuilder said 85s did not have KS (well, even if they didn't they had water drain plugs). I was going to look and see what size bushings he had to use. I am not sure the KS will work right with all of that stuff between the block and it.

I am 99% sure my 1984 305 didn't even have a knock sensor... I think only the HO version did, but not the LG4. That is why I was pulling a code when I put in a Hypercrap chip... no knock sensor.

Yup, Biochem, only the '87 LG4 got the KS. Otherwise only the L69s had the KS for E4ME engines.
