Thirdgen streetability
Hey, I was wondering.. I hear ppl say - oh ill get 1-3/4" hedders
to kill some torque.. and such ..
Torque is good but if it cant hook up, what the point ?
Im undergoing a vortec headed 350.. and would like to know
what is the best way to make the car more streetable..
Like.. getting a single plane instead of dual ? 1-3/4 instead of 1-5/8 ...
My car has 3:23 posi and I dont plan on changing that ..
Im also gonna get something like the hotcam, dont know what brand to pick, maybe crane ..
what would be the effect of 3:23 with 220ish duration ?
would the car be a dog off the line?
The car is to be a street car but autocross is in its objective.
what do you guys think ?
Tnx

The way your describing things would make an engine less streetable. For the street you want the lowend power and effeciency because the engine will hardly ever see the higher rpm range.
You just need to learn how to drive so you can handle the lowend power!

Ya, tho 350's have good torque to get the car moving ..
just wondering how to maximise traction ..
Magazines boast about - full trottle and the tires break loose
Maybe 1-5/8 shorties and an airgap would be the thing..
but I dont know for sure ..

There's people driving around with 500+ hp that have no problem with every day driving, just keep your foot out of it.

I see nothing in your plans that would indicate this setup would not be streetable. Minus the SP intake which isnt a choice component for autocross use. thats about the typical combo for a steet enthusiast.

well, its not that it wouldnt be streetable, I just wanted to know
what ppl do when the want to trade some torque down low
for power upstairs ..

If you are having problems with traction, then just get a better suspension... though you might feel EVERY bump in the road, it would still be streetable, safer of a car (because you can take corners faster in the case of an emergency), and better traction.

Stuff like bigger headers, bigger cam, etc.. don't "kill off" torque, they just move it up higher in the powerband. That might help in your case, but only when you "move it up" too high does it become unstreetable.

Wouldnt that create a less-streetable performance? lol.
