Ive never messed with the aftermarket stuff but i know there are aftermarket CC-HEI distributers available for your application. A cheaper alternative would be to buy a good module so you no longer have to keep replacing the distributer. A good gm replacement module would probably solve most of your problems. Also make sure the rest of the ignition system is in good shape. Theres not much need to use aftermarket stuff on your motor. The stock ignition system will work well on most motors, especially stock ones.

As a side note, so long as your not left stranded, most distributer problems are relatively minor compaired to the other stuff that can go wrong.

Accel and MSD are the only 2 I know of. Both to the tune of roughly 300 clams.

Most of the cheap AutoZone ignition modules (that aren't AC Delco) tend to have a very high failure rate. Get a Delco and you should be fine, short of a serious wiring problem in your car.

How much end play was there? I have one (just the dist. itself) and it doesnt seem too bad.

Im sure Jegs or Summit carries the dist. your looking for.

Quick look at Jegs shows they carry both distributers ment for use with remote coils. ~240 for the accel and ~290 for the MSD.
