Car wont stay running
I have a problem with my car that just started today. It seems like it's not getting gas when i start it. The car is a 1988 305 tbi sport coupe. If i just try to start it, it will run for a second then die. If I hit the gas and start it at the same time, it will idle and run alright, but it idles lower than normal. Sometimes when I shift into or out or park, or into drive it'll die. I just put headers in and 2 of my plug wires are touching the headers, but not bad and they're not really burned at all. I think it's a fuel problem but I dont know where to start. The car will drive and stay running if I am careful and start it right, but it's definately not normal. I need help asap on what the problem might be. Thanks.

did you have this problem before the header install? or did it just start out of the blue?

No it's just out of nowhere. It was running fine then I parked it and went somewhere then I came back, and it was doing this. I have no idea what could happen with it just sitting there.

OK this is a problem that keeps going away and coming back. I try to start it, and it will crank but when it usually starts, it just dies instead. If i crank it and give it gas it will start, but idles badly and sometimes die when I put it in gear. I am going to buy new plug wires, and a cap and rotor. If anyone has any ideas of what is causing this then please help. Thanks.

I don't know how to do that. I am thinking it is a fuel problem, but I don't know what. If I start it hot sometimes it will turn over but just die, you can hear the engine "winding" down. I guess thats how you would describe the sound. If I hit the gas as I crank the motor it will start. Seeing as how it's fuel injected I shouldn't have to be doing this. I need this fixed soon because I have to go take emissions and they're going to fail me if they can't start my car. We all know that the people that work there are idiots.
