Please answer these simple questions for me fast!! (Not simple to me obviously.)

Need some questions answered quickly please!!

1: I have a 1985 LG4 computer controlled quadrajet engine. I want to put a Edlebrock performer intake manifold on it that i got for a good deal from a frined. The intake maybe got 500 miles put on it, and looks like new. Can i do so without screwing up the computers inputs. This intake being different in design and all from the stock intake.

2: I want to rebuild my quadrajet and keep the computer controls, as this will be a daily driver until i get the money for a 350 or something better. What is the best rebuild kit for this carb?

Thank you.

The manifold should not affect anything. Should be a bolt on and go deal. As for rebuild kits...advance, autozone, napa ect should carry them. Probably aren't to much money. More than likely under 20$ or so.

Hope this helps....

P.S. make sure the manifold is for 87 and older heads.

What he said.. Just make sure you plug the manifold fittings that you aren't using so you dont have an ENORMOUS vaccum leak. And also make sure the manifold is compatible with your carburetor. Look at your current manifold or the carburetor base and see if it matches up to the new intake manifold. Being that yours is a C.C. Quadrajet, and not something generic like a Holley, Edelbrock, etc....it may not match.

The edelbrock performer intake should work unless it was made for a holley carb. If its made for a rochester (q-jet) or edelbrock performer carb it should work fine. Just check on that before you buy it.

Worst comes to worst if it is a holley intake you can run an adapter....not sure how good that would be for performance though.

What did you have before you went to the dark side nixon?

The Performer intake (at least the one that I have, #2101) is drilled and tapped for both spread bore and square bore. There shouldn't be any complications. I've had both a Holley 600 DP and an Edel. 600 carb on it.

Carefull with that bolt on part there.. Make sure you do clean all of the old gasket off before you slap that new manifold on there. Its best to get a buddy to help you with this as if all you have is a pack of razor blades and no power grinder with the right wheel, your gonna be scraping that stuff off for quite sometime. Dont leave any of that mess on there unless you want some leaks. Check for any dips, gouges, stuff like that where the bottom of the intake mainifold meets the top of your block. Might wanna smear a lil extra gasket sealant (stuff in the tube ) on those area's. I guess you have alread checked that the ports are the right size, make sure they match up with your heads. If you have a stock setup I'm sure the edelbrock specs would let you know if it works on your car. somethin really important that I hope ya know but I'll say it anyway, TOURQUE SEQUENCE!! And! how many lbs of torque that should be applied to each bolt. I'm going to leave it up to the gear heads of thirdgen to let you know the proper sequence and how much torque you should apply to the bolts, I dont really recall myself but I'm sure its in that cheap book you can get from the parts store. That or on some web site, search www.google.com for such key words. Just keep in mind that there are these lilttle things that are overlooked but they DO! make a big difference. GOOD LUCK @ YA!

oh yea, and I wish I had time to do this when I swapped my intake manifold (went with a carb) I would have port and polished the intake runners for better performance. All those lil hp adders have to add up to somethin

Nixon...I don't hate you for going to a fox...

I have thought about it many times. Fox bodies either run great times for little money or are complete piles of crap. And the typical thirdgen you find for sale usually not fast at all...just a pile.

Kinda sucks...if I would have known anything about cars when I bought mine I probably would have bought a mustang. But I had no idea what I was getting myself into with the third gen.

I still love the third gens....but IMO they're too much money to work with. Yes, the SBC is AWESOME....but the weak rear ends and all the other things with these 3rd gen F-bodies make them problematic to build up.

Mustangs are great for hauling butt and not breaking things. It takes a LOT to break an 8.8 rear end.... From what I HEAR, you can dip into 13's with a 3rd gen and then you start running into problems.. The Mustangs will usually get into 12's before you have any problems, other than say crappy transmission, etc.

I had to do a motor swap on the stang when I got it...had a bent conn. rod and fried rings, but it still managed a 14.5 at 95 mph pass. Thats why I kept it....any stock-headed stock-cammed motor with only 302 cid's that can run those times badly damaged with an original high-mileage trans has my respect.

Not that I have dyno'd my engine, but I think I am somewhere in neighborhood of 450 horse. I am running this through stock 85 disc brake posi, and stock V6 T- trans. To this date, I have broken nothing!!!!!! I also haven't lost to any fox bodies, even my buddy's car which is running a ZEX dry system. 75 hp shot. Maybe switching to the dark side isn't the way to go............

If you already have an aluminum intake, I doubt you'll notice too much difference with that manifold. Its basically the same as a stock GM manifold. Its a good manifold, just not a night/day difference.

It is a bolt in deal though, since its got a Qjet flange on it (Stekman says it does, so I'll take his word for it). IIRC, it should also have a spot for EGR too. If not, ditch the EGR, lol.

One little tip though... If you really wanna get every bit of performance out of it that you can, do what I did with mine: In the middle of the manifold, on the bottom, is a passage for exhaust heat to warm up the carb. Its the little 'port' in the middle of the manifold. What I did was fill both sides with hi-temp silicone (the red stuff) and stuck a small metal plate in it (plate made with a peice of tin can).

This blocks off the heat going into the manifold. It does make a small, but noticeable, difference in performance once the engine is warm. It feels noticeably punchier.
