About ebery other time i try to start my car when i turn the key it just humms. Then if I wait about five minutes it will start right up. It does this in the rain and the sun and cold and hot . I replaced the starter but that was not it cayse it sstill does it,
PLEASE HELP IT IS VERY FRUSTRATING

 

What type of engine?

 

Does it do it right after you park the car? Or even in the morning when it hasnt been started for several hours, or.... ?

What is the typical scenario when this happens? I'm thinking heat soaked starter, and replacing it didnt help much because it's still being heat soaked.

 

it is a 305 tbi engine. IT does it at all times wether it has ben drivin for a while or even in the morning.

 

Where does the humming sound like it is coming from and does your security light stay on until you release the key?

 

yes the security light turns on until i release the key
It sounds like the humming is comeing form behind the dash

 

It sounds like you are having a problem with the VATS system. What can of shape does the contacts on your key and the lock cylinder appear to be in? Maybe dirty or worn?

 

THe key is really worn
would replaceing it fix my problem

 

More than likely it would because if the key is worn, the contacts in the lock cylinder can't read the resistance value in the pellet.
