Its better not to tell it

Anyway .. Is the best way to get replacement key to

If you want to replace the ignition, just buy a key cylinder from AC Delco for a GM of your year. $10 max.

I use to work for a dealership. They run your Vin# to get your key cut code. BUT, the computers will only go back as far as 87. I lost my keys a few months ago, thank *** my car is an 88.

I have an 86 and got my dealer invoice through GM Media Archive. It has the key codes on it. Drop an email to peggy.vezina@gm.com

It will take a number of weeks/months to get the invoice though.

I don't know about the vats/ignition.

The door locks are easy to replace and cheap too, I got the chrome one's from autozone.com and they come with two keys. Cost 20.00 shipped to my door. The jerkwads at the local parts store wanted like 40bucks for 'em. I also had some chrome door handles off a parts car, put them on while I had the panels apart.

Take your VIN to the dealer and have them code cut a key for you. Be prepared as the chip keys, IIRC, are around $25 for just the blank.

Funny, I had some cut this spring for my '89. Guess I should call the dealer and tell them they were wrong to cut the keys for me.

Or you can get a key from a locksmith. VATS key blanks st one of the local locksmiths were $7 the last time I bought one for my '94. If they have to find the key code and cut a new one from code, there will be an additional fee, of course.

The point is that a good lock shop also has the ability to cut your key. You're NOT simply stuck with the dealership.

the only way he can get a key made by a locksmith is if he knows the resistance of the key the locksmith will not have the codes so they will not be able to make a key i had a key made once i found out the resistance and it cost me 25.00 from a locksmith for a code key.
