I hear a rattling noise when i hit the gas

I hear a rattling noise when i hit the gas.
It doesn't do it all the time but when i really get into it i hear a rattling noise in the back of the car. I checked the exhaust and i dont think its that. my dad seems to think it might be the rear going out of it. I hope thats not true. Anyone with any experience with this problem please give me some idea.

Back off the timing some, its probably way too high. It sounds like little rocks in a glass jar, right?

rattling noise in the back of the car
Not to say sound isnt deceiving, but we can give the benefit of the doubt.

Things to look at:
U-joints
Exhaust
Anything Rubbing on wheels?
Shielding under the car.

Get under the car, and rattle and shake everything. See if you can find anything rattling. Could maybe be your exhaust at High RPM's, you wouldn't be the first

ok. i put the car up on the lift an checked the exhaust. it was able to move. i tightened it up and also put a hose clamp around the catalitic conv. cover to keep it from moving. i drove it that morning and it still did it.

But when i took it out later that day it didn't do it.

I think it only does it under high acceleration at low to mid speeds, (0-30)mph.

Thanks for all the help guys

Yeap, sounds like pinging to me. Are you getting any codes?? It sounds like the timing is out a bit.

Mine would rattle real bad under heavy load and high accelleration, and come to find out my Knock sensor had gotten the plug knocked off, or looked like it had, put in a new one and a new plug and my rattle stopped.

Knock sensor is right near the starter at the bottom of the block.
