"vats"? Security?

All the time my family have owned camaros there has been the same problem. I go to start my car this morning and nothing. This happens every now and then but this time its not starting at all. I dont know what the heck it is but usually my father tells me to clean the chip on the key, but this does not work. I want to ask if mechanics can fix this or the dealerships (ripoff). If i buy a new key, would this solve this. Please help me because I dont know what to do and i cant have this car not running. Thanks

Do the contacts on the key appear to be badly worn? If they do, then yes getting a new key would help you. You might also have a problem with contacts inside the lock cylinder being worn.

Same issue

Lots of Camaros have this problem. There are a few posts which detail how to bypass VATS, the easiest being to get an alarm with a remote starter. Replacing the cylinder lock with a dealer part and getting a new key at the same time would be the fix for another few years...

The one for your car should be something like $25.00. It usually depends on the dealership and the mood they are in each day. The price I quoted is at my dealership as of last week. Actually some locksmiths carry them as well.
