Should have been able to get it from underneath while you were on the lift... Just a plain ol' ratchet and plug socket - nothin' too fancy about it. You won't get a long swing on the ratchet, but it'll come out eventually. I assume this was your first time at it - it'll get easier...

Yeah, that one should have been able to come out from the bottom. I used a sparkplug socket (duhhh...) and a flex-head ratchet. And this was on 6 inch ramps on my back on the parking lot.

i DID
i tride from the bottom and from the top...and my dad did too
its a REALLY tight squeeze....i can barely get my hand in there to put the socket.....so i did try it from the bottom (thats how i did all the other ones)....and yes i had a rachet with the swivel head, tried puttin wrench on the end of the spark plug socket.....none of them would fit.

Hmm... Without being there to show you how all's I can say is keep wiggling. There's probably more than one "path" to the sparkplug that you just might be missing. If your spark plug socket has a hex-shaped end where you could put a wrench on it, try that.

Ahhh...it sure is nice to have headers and no emissions stuff and being able to change out the plugs in ten minutes standing up. I've done my share of that sh*t and feel for anyone who still has to do it. But even with all that stuff on there, it gets easier every time.

I think from the bottom you can use a small ratchet with no extensions or anything - using anything else actually makes it harder. You can get it from the top with a u-joint and some extensions but it's no fun...lose the emissions crap and it's SO easy!
One other tip - try to find a socket that has a very thin lip on it. That makes it MUCH easier to get certain plugs where a bigger lipped socket would hit the manifold and cause problems.

Matt,
I get all of mine from the top, and I have all the "goodies" in the way.
The #8 can be about as much fun as it gets, but it can be done with a standard spark plug socket and open end wrench (ever wonder why there are flats on a spark plug socket?).
Once you get it out, you'll undoubtedly want to coat the threads of the new ones with anti-seize compound to make life easier the next time.

I was able to change # 8 from the top on my 83 TA which has AC. There was a lot of cursing involved and I think I had to remeove some stuff to get at it a bit better. But it can be done - one millimeter at a time.
I can get some free twin-electrode rapid fires for free (my friend works at Automart). I know I wont notice a difference with them in, but is it worth the effort to get up under my car and replace em?
