Got a complete computer and dyno tune today!!
Got a complete computer and dyno tune today!! the boss for the shop wasn't in today so I took my mechanic and my buddy that works there hooked me up BIG time....I got 8 pulls off that sucker. My best pull after tuning here and there was 443.4 hp @ 6100rpm and 498 lb ft of torque @ 4700rpm. I had it dynoed last year and it made 417hp and 470ft lbs but I knew it could be fine tuned for better results. We hooked up a wide band O2 sensor to it and it helped a lot in dialling the air/fuel ratio. Guess its time to get me some dr's and see what it can do this season!!
Curious to know:
AFR heads' specs (runner sizes, etc.)
cam specs for duration
what rear gear your running
size tires
Sounds like you have a nice setup...Have you done anyting to the HSR for fitment to the heads, or any porting?

I'm running the AFR 210cc aluminum heads(if you go on their website you'll get all the specs on that particular head). I didn't have do anything to make the HSR manifold fit the heads. My cam duration specs are 230/238 @ .050 lift, I have 3.73 gears and 275/40/17 out back and 245/45/17 in front, all on 17x9 wheels. Anything else just ask...thanks for the compliment too.

great numbers. maybe i can expect numbers close to that...i have a superam and a 8.3:1 forged bottom end with both 8 or 12 lbs intercooled vortech s/c.....trick flow 2.02's ported....cam is a 230/236 duration on a 112 and the lift is about 500. Hopefully i can pull down similar #'s with tuning. what does it run at the track?

Hey Justin, if you're combo is well tuned i think you should see well over 350rwhp and a bucket of torque...after nailing the tune make sure to get your drivetrain equally sturdy(tranny, driveshaft, rearend) and don't forget a good suspension setup if you want to hook and/or cut any kind of decent 60' times. Address all those issues and you should be on your way to good things and at least your probably at sea level out there in N.Y and not like us out here in denver fighting this stinking mile high elevation we got out here...good luck!

hey,
yeah, I already have the suspension and rear set up pretty good , as well as a 700 with a 2,800 stall...i 60'd a 1.8 on streeet radials on a 356 hp motor and ran 13.5's. @ 104...never got times with the old blower setup, but i'm sure it was in the mid 12's cause i raced documented 12 sec cars. i hope to make good power like you....very similar combo!

looks like you got it under control justin...keep me posted as you go along because i'm curious to see your numbers as our setups are in fact very similar.

about 16-17mpg in town without my foot in it and around 22-23mpg on the interstate in overdrive and 4th gear converter lock-up. I can live with that...I know guys with N/A 327's and 350's getting way worse milage!

Joe, about the compression ratio...I thought i'd make it low enough so that if in the future if I raise the boost level it will still have room with the compression...I always plan ahead as it will end up costing you less in the long run.

anesthis,
I got speed pro blower pistons that were that compression ratio, plus I will be running a lot of boost. about 12lbs intercooled. Last time I had 9.5:1 and detonated like crazy. I want to make the power with boost rather than compression to be on the safe side. hence my cam choice. hopefully iyt's not too low, but lee perry's isnt....he is 8.5:1 and making 450hp and 500 ft lbs.
lee perry,
yeah, i'll keep you posted...we'll see what numbers i pull down....i just hope the motor stands up, I assembled it myself and blueprinted it myself, we'll see, keep your fingers crossed. I think I did a good job though....i ported and assemble the heads myself too. I just had the machine work and valve job done on the block/heads. BTW, what track times do you do? you know, your compression re-assures me that i made the right choice...very funny we have such similar setups,..i picked all of the specs,...from a custom grind all the way to the compression, etc.

Justin, the one and only time I ran it since it was built gave me a 12.7 @ 112mph on my street tires(yokohama 275/40/17) and I was slightly sideways for a few secs out of the hole. With some drag radials and the new tune I got, i should see very low 12's...do you think i'll break 11's?

with that MPH I think you "should" break into the 11's, IF you get all of the power to the ground, you gotta concentrate on your launches and tune your chasis to hook up. work on weight distribution, disconnect sways,..air down the rear tires properly, launch at the perfect rpm, concentrate on that 60ft. maybe get adjustable drag shocks,..that's what's gonna do it. I believe that your car should go faster then 112 now too, since you got the tune. Lets face it, it had low 12 power without a doubt before the dyno tune, possibly better,...but it's all about hoooking up. I'm sure you have 11 second power now, however, to run an 11 is another story. you know what i mean,,...but on the street, there ain't anyone who can pull on you I bet. I judge cars by the MPH figure...ET is a little overrated. cause on the street, you never come to a complete stop. well, get to the track again and let me know if you do better. OH, btw, air up the front tires really high. that helps cut down on drag. I don't promote street racing, but I'm just saying that the track is a different ballgame. let me know! -J
BTW, all that sideways time, and all the chirps or whatnot between shifts really KILLS your ET,....each minor chip is like a 1/10th....if you are spinning between gears, you are losing a ton of time and rpm.

To both of you:
I see your point, and that used to be my thinking too.
I ran 12psi on 8.96:1 IRON heads, 28d of timing, no intercooler.
I think with the alum heads, and intercooler, and 42# injectors my setup (9.3:1 SRP blower pistons) should be able to run 15-18psi NO problems.
Mid 8s will let you run more boost for sure. Its just, the throttle response while not under boost that worries me..
Justin, Get the intercooler mounted up? I gotta notch my rad support just a hair more cuz the radiator is bulging too far forward and the hose is contacting the blower belt.

Hey Joe,
I see your point, nad you may be right...The primary reason at the time that I dropped the CR so much was because I had a ton of detination @ 9.5:1 with no intercooler and 10lbs boost...Maybe there was another problem, but fuel volume, pressure and o2's were all okay. So, I don't want to grenade another motor. I think lee perry's setup did real nice on the dyno, even witht hte low compression...i just hope it's not too much of a pig oof the line, but remember, I have a 700R4, which helps... The motor is not in yet, so I din't route the blower....I'lk keep you posted. Hopefully it'll all work out.. Remember I have a 15 lb pulley, that I hope will give me 12lbs w/ the intercooler. -J

I bought a vortech rebuild kit with the good bearings, so hopefully this blower can maintain some high rpms..
Good luck.. Check out my thread on the intercooler.

hmmn, be willing to bet you don't make near 450 hp and 500 ft/lbs like lee perry makes with 8.5:1 Compression
,...but i probably will make close to that with room for more boost
But thanks for the valuable info and supporting logic!

I went with .021 top, .017 2nd. Std oil ring. The SRPs put the ring down low on the blower piston, so it should stay fairly cool.

Joe, I'd have to look back at my paperwork, i forget, but i remamber they are pretty loose,. i think around .025 top and .022 bottom, maybe a litttle tighter.....actually i set them how Speed pro reccomended for the piston....whatever that was. maybe it was 23/18 or something. definately to spec though....a little looser probably be better than tight! (never thought i'd say that)

What are you running for headers?
I hammered the crap outta the radiator support last night. Got it so the intercooler fits with the radiator in stock position.
Maybe if i'm not too tired tonight I'll finish the plumbing.-- Joe

Hey Joe,
yeah I agree, blow by not good, BUT too tight is worse. Like I said I went to spec,..maybe .001 or .002 larger in some cases. That's great, glad to see that you got it to fit nicely. I have to drop the motor soon, maybe this weekend, but i have to wait for it to get warm so I can paint the block....it's been so cold in NY, unseasonably cold. I wish I could get going on it! Keep me posted with pics,...infact, email me munks@optonline.net That way I can add you to my adress book. I'll send you pics of my progression. Oh BTW, the headers are Edel TES
1-5/8th inch primaries....pretty small but will work for now, what do you run? I have a exhaust cutout in the back.
