Spark change in aluminum heads what should I whach for?

I am changing the plugs in my 96 z24 and it has a aluminum head, the plugs are the platinum plugs and even though they are not supose to be changed for another 50,000, I think I will change anyway. So what should I do? is there anything to becarfull about?thanks

yes, be careful.

do NOT overtighten your plugs.
spend the extra 15 minutes and use a torque wrench and torque them correctly (can't remember torque off hand, look in your Chilton's)

YOU HAVE TO USE ANTI-SIEZE ON THE THREADS. do NOT forget this!

again, do NOT overtorque or forget to use anti-sieze or you will risk pulling out your threads next time you change your plugs either from the threads being damaged or being affected from the plugs siezing in the threads

I don't have a torque wrench, could I get away with out it? Will regular anti seize work? thanks

you don't have to use a torque wrench, but it's good insurance agains over tightening. i usually don't use one and have never stripped a thread, but i have a pretty good idea what it should feel like when the plug is tight. use anti seive, any kind will work.

Alot of place will rent torque wrenches, little on the spendy side, but Id rather rent one of them than pay for new heads

torque wrenches don't cost that much to buy anyways, why rent one? I bought a good one for $25 at advance auto.

Make sure the engine is stone cold before you remove the old plugs.
