Gas is about $2.20 here in SE Michigan, suprisingly TWENTY CENTS MORE expensive than yesterday. No joke. But an L98 will get about 17-20 city mpg and about 20-26 hwy miles. You'd be looking at $30 a tank or more, which would get you 250-300 miles depending on driving style, on a freshly tuned car. Keep it maintained and it will treat you right.
my cammed/headed 305TBI was getting 16 city before I killed it.

Hmmm... tough question. Which car?
My GTA was only getting about 13 mi/gal combined before the motor puked. That may not be a good indicator however as the car wasn't exactly what you'd call stock.

I get about 17-19mpg avg, 20 or higher if I get to drive at a constant speed. However, I don't top off. Most of the time it sits in stop and go traffic. I always fill up at about 200 miles (about 11 gallons), twice a week. Now that gas is peaking again here in CA, I'm sure I'll see $30 fill ups once again.

I love my 91 Z28 l98. I didn't buy it for the gas mileage, but usually I get 15-17 mpg city/freeway combined. Since I enjoy driving it I accelerate on the onramps or around turns. I suppose if I took it easy I would get better mileage, but then I might as well be driving an econobox. I have owned other Camaro's including a 1969 SS and 1989 IROC convertible and enjoy this one by far. Good luck in your search.
