305 go boom!
305 go boom!
I just finished building my 355, and I am now ready to put it in the car. Last week-end, I had some friends over, and I told them the plan. They found it hard to believe that I was going to take out a perfectly good running engine to put in another. So we had to fix that... our mission was to destroy this engine. After sorting through a number of ideas.... (deckercharger, manual fogged nitrous.. BB's down the carb...) we realized that with our time constraints, and the fact that no stores were open because it was Sunday, our best option was alternative fuels.
One of my friends who is a helicopter mechanic suggested blending naptha in with gasoline. Naptha is a gas that is used to fuel coleman stoves. It is also known as white gas. I was uneasy about putting camping fuel in my car, so I remembered my dad saying that he used to run his circle track car on Ave (aviation) gas. So we were off to the airport.
We drove all the way to the airport in first gear (30 min drive). By the time we got there, my overflow was spewing coolant, and one of the valves was clicking. After talking to a number of employees we were informed that Ave gas is illegal to sell or transport without a permit... but then he proceeded to fill our jerry can for free.
We ran all the pump gas out of the car, and then filled up with the blue gas. I was very dissapointed with the results. The car ran incredibly quite... you could hardly tell it was on, and there were minimal horsepower gains. We took it out in the back roads, and did a couple 1/4 mile runs... nothing impressive, so we decided to go for the burnout record. To make a long story short, you can't kill a 305 LG4 no matter what you do to it.

Uhmm, no offence intended but why?
Are you insane?
Theres no point in wrecking a running engine!
You should just take it out and sell it for 100$ Id rather have some $$$ than a useless hunk of iron.

Where I come from 305's aren't worth a dime... especially a warmed over LG4 with 300,000+ miles on it. I already have another one rusting on a cart under the bench. I have also spend $100 and had less fun before.

Go Johnny Go Johnny. How about some Everclear in the engine? Hmm? 180 Proof Alcohol for that bad boy? Wait a sec....is that considered transportation of open liquor? It's illegal here in the states

And you can still use it on your new motor, after your "experimentation" on the 305.
Heres an idea: Drain out all the coolant and bump the timing to where you know you'll be in serious detonation country. Then get one of your friends to floor the gas for about ten minutes. This is how my buddies and I destroyed the 3.8L V6 in an old Ford Fairmont that we had to dispose of. We didn't want the car for obvious reasons and we just didn't feel right about sending a running car to the wrecking yard. I won't get into the gory details unless you want, but it blew that engine to hell like no ones business.

You should try your own prolong engine treatment test. Put some pro-long in it, run it for a while, drain the oil and coolant, pull the valve covers, and pour sand all in it. Contrary to the infomercials I've seen late night, I bet it doesn't run for 60 seconds...

I pulled it today, and started tearing it down.... there is plenty of sand and iron filings under the valve covers already
I wish I could have waited a couple more days for the nitrous... I am pretty sure that it threw a rod in the end... I was hoping to put a hole through the side of the block....

h ell yeah that would be some serious fun, me and my friend almost bought some 4 door pos for like 200 it would be a blast to just tear the doors off ramp a car then for the finally ramp it into the lake. I'm thinking mustang would be a good vehicle for experimentation?

I once sold a 1977 Toranado to an aquaintence of mine for sixty bucks (That's TEN dollars more than the junkyard would give me!). THe car had a solid Olds 403 under the hood so he picked it up for some fun.
I showed up at his place a week later, and his subdivision street was PAINTED with black lines! It turned out that he spent the afternoon powerbraking this hulk of a car (It was easy since the front brakes were shot) until both tires exploded. He even tried full-throttle shifts from drive to reverse. NOTHING would break the transmission.
He then pulled the engine out, and hauled the rest to the junkyard (and got fifty bucks).
The motor is now rebuilt and is installed in a '72 Olds 442, which now turns mid-elevens at the strip.
