Wierd temps.....what T-stat do I have?
I bought my '91 Z28 about 3 years ago and I never changed the t-stat nor did I examine the current one. After hearing some discussion on t-stats and cooling Im beginnine to think I dont have a stock temp t-stat. Last night it was very humid and cool, about 60-70. I was driving my Z28 around on back streets with no traffic at all at about 30-50 mph. My temp gauge was around 135-155. However, if I had left my car idling at a full stop my temp got to 200 (this took a while). Whats the verdict guys?
Ummm... why don't you take it out and look at it ?!

Why go to all that trouble?
The stock thermostat is 195º, but if its been changed it could be anything, like 160º, or 180º.

Probably no t-stat installed, if it's running that cold.

Most likely a 160* thermo, no big deal except for the fact that your car needs to be setup for this, if stock you need to change it back to the 195*(I did this and my car and it ran better to my amazement). These cars run at a certain temperature for a reason and they are designed for that temp and everything functions at that temp unless you make mods and that is a different story. I had a 160* thermo(not that it helped) and a bad EGR valve and I was getting 27 mpg hwy and 24 mpg cty, I changed the thermo and the EGR valve and now I am back down to 18 mpg hwy but I have better performance.
