Blue/black smoke at cold start only need Help

Ok,

this just started happening about 5 days ago, cars has 60K miles on it, I checked the site and it might be a bad valve seal, but also I just replaced my MAF relays, and could it be running rich .... as it was running lean before replacing. If it is running rich is there any way to lean it without a AFPR???? any help on this matter is most apprciated.

If it is just one quick puff on start up, it is valve guide seals. If it is valve guide seals, I wouldn't worry about it. It is kind of standard on any Chevy small block with 50k miles or more. It doesn't hurt anything. If it is running rich, and everything is in good shape-i.e. good injectors, clean air cleaner, good O2 sensor, etc. then you just need to drive the car a few miles to let the computer adjust to the new maf.

I think you're running a little rich, valve seals blow white smoke.

If the problem only occurs briefly at start up, don't worry about it. It is just valve guide seals. The computer doesn't go to closed loop until the engine is warm, so you will run a little rich until the engine warms up.

I stand corrected, worn valve seals blow gray. (Always looked kinda white to me... oops)

I have this problem too at start up, I think it's the valve seats too. But I can also smell some oil while driving sometimes. When does it become something to worry about?

I wouldn't worry about it until the oil consumption becomes out of hand. How much oil is it using, or is the oil consumption even noticable. My 1991 Jimmy 4.3L puffs a bit on start-up(140000 miles) and is just below the full mark on the dipstick at 3000 miles.

I asked a random mechanic today just in case anybody else was wondering, he said it's something to worry about when the oil consumption gets too be a lot, and also when the plugs start fouling out.
