Will it fit? Yes. All SBC cam journals are the same size, except for the LS series engines.

But a LT4 cam for a '91 TPI? I'm confused on that one.

First, the LT4 cam was not made for a TPI, but it will fit. It should also fit the older L48, but an original LT4 cam will not have a fuel pump lobe to operate the mechanical pump on an L48. The only other fitment problem is the length of the cam sprocket dowel, which is easy to remedy. You can pull the OEM dowel and replace it with a shorter one, grind the dowel legth to the correct length, or sometimes drive the dowel deeper to achieve the correct length.

Just get a flat tappet cam, or retrofit roller ..

the guy who is selling it said he originally brought it for his '91 tpi. would you recommend a different cam if so which one. im not looking for mega performance. my mods will be new heads , fairly mild ones to replace the terrible ones on the stock L48, new carb , already fitting ( holley ), headers and staright through exhaust system. so if anyone could recommend a cam that would work well with the above mods it would be great.

oh while im here my tuning guy said that the stock hei distributor are crap. is that true? if so is there a direct replacment

The LT4 and most cams in cars after 86-87 are roller cams along with 91+ trucks are so.

It will not work in your motor without some jury rigging and haching of **** up.

A regular flat-tappet cam.
